National defense seems to be the predominate headline in all news items so we'll start this month's notes with our contribution, to wit, Charlie Sargent has recently been made a Major in the 241st Coast Artillery. After a month at Cape Cod, under canvas, Charlie entrains to Texas for a year's stay. A somewhat allied item is a photograph from a Worcester, Mass., newspaper showing Ben Ayers assuming the duties of Commander of the General Devens Post of the American Legion.
The number of "Announcing the Arrival of" notices are few and far between these days so super-congratulations to Bob and Isabel Morse on the arrival of a son, James, born September eleventh.
Called Charlie McGoughran the other day but found that he was in Fort Worth, Texas. However, he did crash through with a letter containing some news he garnered en route and at home. Excerpts follow, "Talked with Freddie Hamm in Chicago found him chagrined at missing Reunion. Tried to reach Stan Newcomer when in Toledo but found he was out of town. Laddie Myers wasn't available as he was out pounding the pavements for Brother Willkie;—Bung Roland, wife and three fine youngsters visited us while doing the Fair." Commenting on Bung causes Charlie to comment—"l'd like to clear up the incident reported last month. 'Porkpies' Rounsville was the inspiration for the 'wet-down' and his cheering and encouraging directions made possible the expert handling on the part of Hoseman Roland. No mention was made of Baron Bowen who was a casualty when Mrs. Charlie went into action—the recipient, on The proboscis, of a flying ash tray." This probably sounds terribly silly to you guys but it was and will be the cause of many belly-laughs when the participants gather. To show there were no hard feelings the Goodnows visited the McG's recently.
Don McLeran has been appointed General Agent in St. Paul for the New England Mutual Life Insurance Cos. Our records show Don's previous address as Chicago. I notice that Don and Sherry B. belong to the same insurance fraternity, CLU. It must be a good lodge as both boys seem to be doing awfully well.
I know that you'll all be sorry to hear that Bun Harvey has asked to be relieved of his duties as Class Agent. Bun served faithfully for 5 years, each year being tough on him as his Company's fiscal year and the end of the Fall campaign ended on June go. Nevertheless he did a swell job climaxing it last year when the number of contributors and the amount contributed was about the best showing the Class ever made. The College and particularly the Class owe Bun a great debt.
Did you know that: Don Mac Donald is the New England Representative of LIFE magazine—San Palo is an investment counsellor and lives in Port Colborne, Ontario, Canada—Rod Hatch is General Manager of the Handee Products Cos., Williamsville, N. Y. In case you don't know it both the latter places are near Buffalo, N. Y.
Don't forget Roc Elliott when you are affixing your signature to the next batch of checks.
