Homecoming at Dartmouth is a very special time. The beauty of the place, the nostalgia it evokes, and the enthusiasm of all assembled filling the air quickly brings one to “return to the Hanover plain.”

Martha Perkins arrived from Vermont, where she is now director of the Lake Champlain Land Trust. I arrived from Boston, and we happily met under the 1957 banner in back of the football stadium ready for the grand march to the homecoming festivities and the bonfire. We were met there by 40 classmates, spouses, and friends. The hill moon scudded through the clouds and shone bright- ly above Dartmouth Hall, glistening white. Exhortations to a Dartmouth victory over Harvard rang across the Green, and then the bonfire blazed. A fine evening.

For the class meeting on Saturday morning, Hanny Mason sent in his report on the class finances. We still have a positive balance in the account, but we have only 368 paying class members, and 614 classmates receive die Alum- ni Magazine. If you are a non-payer, please help out; our class resources are dropping because dues aren’t covering such costs. Jack Cramer again deserves great congratulations! 73 per- cent of our class participated in the last Alum- ni Fund drive. Only one class (1953) beat our participation in our age group, and only 13 class- es overall had a higher percentage. We won our Green Derby group. We should be very proud of that accomplishment.

Tom Schwartz sent out 11 news letters last year. Tom takes that job very seriously, and we should all do what we can to help him. If you haven’t communicated for a while, please call or write either Tom or myself. DanGoggin reported that the scholarship fund continues to grow with die principal now over $60,000. Our goal is to try and reach $lOO,OOO. Dan reminds us that we can des- ignate our capital campaign gift for our class scholarship fund. Please consider this when you are making your gift. Monk Bancroft organized another good mini-reunion for Homecoming weekend, with help from Clark Griffiths. This event is growing in popular- ity each year; please consider joining us in ’94. Monk also reported that a repeat of die Mad River Ski weekend is scheduled for the last weekend in March. Skiers and non-skiers are all welcome, and that is anodier wonderful opportunity to get together and have fun. Markyour calendars now. Monk also is plan- ning to organize a Cape Cod/Martha’s Vine- yard mini-reunion for the summer. Stand by for further dates.

And finally, Clark is to be congratulated for his enthusiastic leadership of the class. We all thank him for his continuing efforts and are pleased to “march with him.”

After Dartmouth’s win, Joe and JaneyStevenson hosted a fun party with the added ether of the Dartmouth Aires singing for us.
