From way out West Coast way where he is giving his all for Uncle Sam's Navy comes news of Joe Batchelder's wedding to Miss Peggy Ernestine. The big event took place in Yuma, Arizona and now Peggy and Joe are happily settled at 2611 E. 60th St., Seattle, Washington, for the time being Ensign Earl Seely announces that he is engaged to Miss Ginny Corvan of Mt. Vernon, New York—the time and place are very indefinite, all depending upon Seel's leave etc Ensign Bob Achorn writes that he combined a commission in the Navy and his marriage to Miss Helen Clements, all within the same week. The ceremony was held in Chicago, but now Bob is sailing the big broad Atlantic while Helen is anxiously awaiting him in Boston From Ensign Bart Jones—"l'm still flying for the Navy and it looks as though I will be doing the same for some time to come—Miss Lee Walser (from home) and I became engaged a short time ago and at present we plan to make the big day sometime in December." Bill Harrison talked his way into the heart of Miss Martha O'Connor of Garden City, Long Island and Trinity College. After the wedding, which should be any day, Bill and Martha will make their home in the vicinity of Fort Custer, Mich. where Bill is now stationed It looks as though the medicos are finally having their inning what with the news of Dan Webster's (the 2nd) recent marriage to Miss Eleanor Fitzpatrick of Syracuse, N. Y. At present Dan and Eleanor are keeping house in Syracuse where Dan is finishing up at Med School. Corp. Bob Brown of Fort McKinley, Maine, with the help of his uniform finally talked Miss Nancy Pierce of Portland into saying she would. The marriage date is still indefinite, but a point of interest is that Nancy is rumored to be the sister of Mrs. Bob Fieldmaking the Pierce family real Dartmouth rooters from now on From Havana way comes the news of the engagement of Miss Frances McGovern to Larry Gilbert. After the wedding Larry and Frances will make their home in Havana where Larry is making quite a name for himself Another bit of medical news is the engagement of Miss Janice Gould and Dave Reid—Janice graduated from Minnesota in '39 and Dave is still slaving away at Tufts Med. While checking over the Boston boys I also find that Henry Glovsky culminated a happy romance with a wedding sometime during the fall. As you may know Henry is making quite a record for himself at Harvard Law From "Muggsey" Bly—"I finally received my degree from Thayer and am now a Civil Engineer for DuPont—nifty job. WRITER OF THE MONTH
This month credit again goes to a number of fellows whose small pearls of news follow Johnny Haartz writes—"Ken Ritchie and I spent a week-end with Dick Varey and wife, Skippy, superb '39 hospitality—also called on Dud Richards and wife Audrey a while ago—They've returned from W. Virginia to Worcester where Dud is with American Steel and Wire." From Corp. Bob Brown—"Have a slick job as Athletic and Recreation Director here at Fort McKinley. However, am about to transfer to the QM Corps, with the procurement division as a goal, to match up with my civilian dept. store buying racket. At least the Army got me a wife-to-be, the sister of the girl Bob Field married Homer Skeels couldn't stand city life and has returned to farming in Montpelier, Vt.—ran into Pem Pleasants commuting from somewhere to see his family at Sebago Lake—looks like the real married father." By way of Bob Thomas—"After graduation I went straight to Seminary along with Tony Hunsicker—General Seminary, New York City. The course is 3 years in length, but after 2 years I decided this summer my place was with Uncle Sam. When this is all over I can go back and finish my last year, so I signed up for training and ex- pect to be an Ensign in the very near future." From little Georgie Hanna— "Was inducted into the Army last July 9th, assigned to Fort Devens, Mass. where I found Gordon McCoun a seasoned veteran. Was put in a Medical Detachmentdo everything from sweep, mop, tend boilers, dress wounds, give innoculations, do clerical work etc. Have seen Tommy Hine on his way through here—he has signed up for three years as a mechanic in the Air Corps. Etarpo Walsh was also here for a while, but was transferred to Aberdeen, Maryland. I like it around here and am at least learning something."
THE CLEARING HOUSE
I could stand a few more letters from you fellows as I'm quickly running out of news. Also any pictures of interest would be greatly appreciated—we've been pretty lax in this department so far.
