The announcement of Judge Cohen's munificent bequest will delight all Dartmouth alumni. But it will give a very special thrill to us who remember the little fellow who joined us at Hanover in the fall of 1875, coming up from Kimball Union Academy at Meriden with Hough, Libby and Upton. That he made good use of his four years at Dartmouth is evident from the fact that he was awarded the Grimes prize for the greatest improvement during the course.

Through all the years since then he has been a most loyal and generous member of the class, serving us as class president from January, 1932 until his death in February, 1938. He presided at our fifty-fifth anniversary reunion in 1934, and in a letter written about a month before his death said: "Tell me what should be done by me toward our sixtieth anniversary reunion, and I will do whatever you order." But instead of having his help at the reunion, we had the melancholy pleasure of dedicating a tree to his memory.

His name will go down in the Dartmouth annals as one of her larger benefactors, and as one of a notable group of '79 men, among whom he and Hough, Melville, Proctor and Thayer take high rank.

Secretary, 72 South St., Proctor, Vt.
