GAY GLEASON'S APPOINTMENT as General Counsel for Employers Liability has drawn acres of publicity in insurance fields.... we never knew that there were so many opportunities for it.... and I guess that none of us realized just how far Gay had gone in his specialized work. .. .he will have complete charge of such phases as department rulings, public relations, legislation, the Claim Department. .. .we all are mighty proud of him. .. .for he is a swell fellow, too.

THE CASUALTY INSURANCE FIELD has another Tenner who has gone some distance ... .none other than Harold Pineo Jackson, once The Pride of Montpelier, Vt. and a member of the Rainbow Division in the World War Pineo presidents the Bankers Indemnity Cos., Newark, N. J., is an insurance lecturer of note, writes interesting articles for national publications, his latest "Peabody's Reform" in March issue of The Casualty & Surety Journal containing a moral on speeding by youth ... .recently he was elected member of the Advisory Committee for the Center for Safety Education at New York University .... in addition to the above he is a great Dartmouth man, ever seeking to interest some likely lad in going to Hanover.... to a class secretary, he is one of those everthoughtful, willing-to-take-a-minute members that form the cornerstone of any group.... and when a man is tops in that respect in 1910, he is Tops. .. .for no Class has more loyal or helpful members than this same 1910.

SID WHIPPLE'S address is N. Y. WorldTelegram., 125 Barclay St., N. Y. C., of which publication he is dramatic critic. .... Keith Pevear lives at 633 Quincy Shore Blvd., Quincy, Mass Jack Dingle acts as Insurance Counsellor at Frankford, Delaware, his old home state Killy Nicol's address is 141 W. Jackson Blvd., Chicago Horace Chadbourne who some 35 years ago was specializing in masks and protectors, is Informational Representative for U. S. Employment Service at Helena, Montana, with residence at 245 sth Ave., Kalispell, Mont Ossie Shenstone has moved to 1419 Ruddiman Ave., North Muskegon, Mich., where he is engineer for Muskegon plant of Norge Machine Products Division Storm Josselyn lives at 229 Kenoza Ave., Haverhill, Mass.

DALE CARNEGIE gives Dr. Rollo G. Reynolds, "principal of the Horace Mann School, New York City" a plug in a recent syndicated article.... referring to 1910's Giant in Secondary School Circles, Dale pens, "He once found mathematics dull, uninteresting and difficult to learn. He flunked it first year in high school. The next year it was dull; he flunked it again. It didn't seem to offer any more the third year; he flunked it again. The fourth year he just managed to get by. At Dartmouth College he took mathematics again.'By this time he had decided that his life work would be along educational lines: His best chance would seem to be in.... of all things.... teaching mathematics. So he began to think more about mathematics! He wished he were ..good at mathematics. Then, all of a sudden, mathematics became interesting. He began to study with enthusiasm. He did not flunk again."

Breeding "Math Sharks" in Shurtleff House is a little bit strong for our weak mind to digest at the moment. .. .for we recall rather well Freshman Math sections presided over by the late "Tubby" Barton and Pete Fletcher. .. .in which were certain Shurtleff House residents Those sections were not at all ordinary sections, nor were they for the "Mathematically Curious.". .. .No less than Tute Worthen called them "High School Mathematicians."... . They were not listed in the College Catalogue, and they did not meet when there was any other use for the Class Rooms in Chandler The membership revealed a few Seniors, a Junior or so, several Sophomores, and a lot of Freshmen who happened to belong to 1910 Names cannot yet be mentioned for there are still offspring in school and college who might try to emulate their dads in Mathematical Impenetrability Suffice it to say that the Football Squad, Northern New Hampshire, New Hubbard, Shurtleff House and the East Side of the Campus were strong in Numerical Representation.

"TUBBY," really a grand fellow, and one who could put on an act with absolute perfection, closed his "High School Section" with this valedictory late one afternoon, "You cast-offs," he started with a portending voice, "get out of here, go to your rooms, study as you never studied before if you want to pass the exam. It's going to be the hardest you ever took."

The downcast group started to rise on wobbly knees.... when "Tubby" began to speak more words, "If I flunked everyone who should be flunked, the football team would be without a center, a guard, tackle, two ends, three backs One of my own classmates would cease speaking to me because of his brother The Glee Club would go out of business .... and The Path to Higher Education would be littered with Embryonic Doctors, Lawyers, Teachers .... but of what avail.... absolutely none at all ... . if you Dumb Clucks were to study Freshman Algebra the rest of your College courses, you wouldn't know any more about it than now .... it would impoverish Dartmouth College .... get out, do a lot of studying .... but don't worry!"

That was "Tubby" Barton, Dartmouth 'O4, one of the best faculty friends 1910 ever had—the percentage of even 50's, the passing mark, was extremely high.

ANDY SCARLETT, Class Agent of accomplishment, is busy on the Alumni Fund at this writing .... you'll be hearing direct from his headquarters. . . . give him a break this year .... for the College needs the money .... and Andy is one of the busiest men in Hanover.
