This month we present the latest photograph of Major William H. Balch, scholar, scientist, soldier, Chevalier de la Orden de Duarte. Billy is at present greatly interested in the new volcano in Mexico.

Under date of April 22nd it was announced from Allied Headquarters in North Africa that three pilots who participated in the first United States fighter sweeps over France were decorated for gallantry in action during the Dieppe raid last August. Among them was Major Harrison R. Thyng, 25, Herbie's son. He received the Silver Star for remaining behind his group to protect a pilot who parachuted into the English Channel. The citation said: "Defying enemy attacks with complete disregard for his own safety, he circled the position of the pilot in the channel until rescue boats arrived."
