We are not certain that we like this interim issue for it doesn't seem natural to be pounding out copy in the summertime

. ... but then not much is natural any more and about all we can do is to do what we're supposed to do. And lack of space permits only sketchy mention of Tenners and their families.

Recently we ran across Fielder Jones, quite unexpectedly on a street in Albany, N. Y., and had a delightful evening with him.... four days later as we were registering in Detroit's Book Cadillac, who should step up but Frank Meleney and insist that we share his room for the night. Both of these fellows, the R.F.C. expert from Washington who knows a lot and the Surgical Research Committee Chairman from N. Y., who associates with Big-Wig doctors, rate more space about their interesting lives .... but c'est la guerre!

ANDY SCARLETT, with whom we had a nice visit in Hanover yesterday, deserves a rising vote of thanks for the marvelous job he did in leading 1910 to an all-time Fund High .... over $5,200 .... and that's a lot of free-will money in any language. Final figures were not in, but it looked something like 165 contributors to give the above total. Congratulations, and thanks, Andy!

DUSTY CRAFT and MARK SMITH died recently. We have scant details about Dusty, but Mark rated spacious copy in Washington papers.... further details on obituary pages.

DALLAS SMITH is at Harwichport, Mass.

J Howard Bushway hit a 71 in New Eng. senior golfers tournament Horace Chadbourne is with Glacier National Park, Belton, Mont Tenners in Washington can locate Major Johnny Hobbs at Apt. B, 3314 E. Co. at Worcester Mac Kendall and brother, Warren, are important enough figures in the R.R. world for the B. & M. to rename our "Pompy" of old (the first station north of Hanover) to KENDALL .... their importance is not new to us, but change of the name is ... . they're swell fellows and always have been.

THE SECOND GENERATION—The Class extends its deepest sympathy to Barsha Powers Shattuck and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Shattuck in the loss of their husband and son, Jack, who through the years had been well known to many Tenners and their families. Jack was one of those fine young fellows who chose flying for his service career shortly after he graduated at Hanover in 1941. Killed while on duty, he paid the supreme price, but those left behind can always rejoice in a multitude of precious memories that nothing can ever deny them.

The two Everett boys are still in the South Pacific, John, Lieut, (j.g.) on a destroyer, Lieut. Dick as Navy Liaison Officer with the Marines, both having seen plenty of action. Their young brother, Jimmy, is a midshipman at Annapolis. Bill Holmes is a corporal in Uncle Sam's Army while brother Steve is a flight-officer in Africa.

The two Bates boys are in Naval Aviation, and to keep Jack completely airminded his daughter married Capt. Gromcan, USA Air Force. Marcia Wood graduated from Russell Sage in May where she majored in Biology, is spending summer at Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole. Stan Sandberg is a U.S.N. Ensign.... his younger brother, Herbert, Jr., is with the Army Signal Corps. "Bennie" Benjamin left College and entered the Army Air Force in April.... Jack Jenness is in the Army Meteorology Class at Univ. of lowa Beckett Jones is doing similar work at M.I.T.

John Coleman D'38 is Curate of Christ Church Cathedral in Hartford. His sister Muriel, Middle- bury '39, is married to her classmate, Ray Skinner, now an air cadet.

Marjorie Scarlett graduated from Skidmore, is now with Altman's in N. Y. Curt Norris is an honor student at Cleveland's University School. Charlie Jackson finished his recruit training at Great Lakes, is now at Indiana University. Elizabeth Shapleigh Lowell was married to Charles Hill Ryland, June 19, in First Congregational Church at Cambridge. Constance Thurber was married to Peter Pruden, Ensign USNR. One of Chet Scott's boys is in the Merchant Marine, and another is a Phi Beta Kappa student in his fourth year at Stanford Medical 5ch001.... one son-in-law is in the USNR, and was at Pearl Harbor.

"INKY" TAYLOR has gone to Washington as Principal Attorney for Board of Economic Warfare, an organization of note. Just heard that Harold Washburn, the Vt. Yankee-French Professor, took the "brushup" course in Physics and isn't certain yet whether it comes in bottles or the human cranium.

CHARLIE BARDWEIX just sent me a two- page, censored but highly interesting letter from Greenland, the largest island in the world, where he has been for many months in charge of construction crews. Shorty Worcester is actively engaged in the management of the Taylor Manufacturing Cos., Elgin, 111. Don Bryant is with Pullman- Standard Cos. Bert Kent has been elected to the corporation of the Mechanics Savings Bank, Holyoke.

REPORTING ON AFFAIRS OF YOUR CLASS, we believe that everything is in rather good condition Fletch Burton continues to do a topflight job in collecting dues and paying bills even while he has the tough assignment of being Rhode Island's Fuel Administrator Andy Scarlett, one of the ablest and busiest men in Hanover, has just concluded 1910's greatest Alumni Fund campaign with a total of over $5,200. Your Chairman-Secretary .... well, there never were enough hours in the day to do everything within his bailiwick of activities, and today the situation is about 'teen times worse. Fletch, Andy and I will do what we can, and you fellows have our thanks for your ever-willing cooperation. Some day we all will get together again in Hanover.... perhaps, when Dartmouth has her greatest "Home-Coming" in history .... after the war is over.

Secretary, Canaan St., Canaan, N. H.
