By the time this MAGAZINE reaches you, you will undoubtedly have received notice about the Reunion but I will just give you a few details in case, for any reason, you are not reached. We will have the Reunion at the Hotel Mayflower at Plymouth on June 16, 17, and 18. Each member of the class is to make his own reservation at the hotel for whatever length of time he desires, notifying me at the same time about his reservation so that we will know how many to plan for. Allen Newton's famous clambake will go on Saturday afternoon, June 17. This will be the only charge made to you other than what arrangements you make with the hotel and you will be given credit on your hotel bill for the meal that you missed at the hotel for this clambake. Arrangements are being made for some golf matches and Bob Burns has been assigned the job of collecting movie films of other reunions and Dartmouth films that may be of interest. If, by any chance, you have not received any of these details, write at once to the hotel or to me and I will see that you are informed of the latest details.
Janet, the daughter of Sandy and Harriet Hooker, was married on April 8 to Donald Ross Bishop at a very pretty wedding at the First Parish Church, West Roxbury, followed by a reception at their home, 34 Ruskin Street. Harriet was attractive enough to be the bride herself and Janet was just as composed as you have always found Sandy. In fact, she was the most composed bride I have ever seen. All in all a fine time was had by all.
As I briefly mentioned in my last column, the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Maine gave a dinner on February 22 to honor two Dartmouth Alumni who had obtained high rank in Maine jurisprudence—our classmate Harold Murchie, who is a Supreme Court Justice, and Superior Court Justice Arthur E. Sewall 'O4. Doc Foster presided and President Hopkins made the principal address. In fact, everybody of importance in Maine was present to do honor to them.
On May a the newspapers carried a note that Lt. (jg) Richard P. Howard, son of our classmate Eliot R. Howard, who has been missing in action since January 27, 1943, has been awarded the Purple Heart.
I recently received a letter from Clarence Dunbar, who is a lieutenant colonel somewhere around the Mediterranean, in which he said that his son Dick had recently arrived overseas and he hoped to see him, as it had been a long time since they had met. His son Bob is also somewhere in service in the Pacific area. Clarence wants to give his regards to all the boys.
Tom Worthen, the oldest son of Joe Worthen, has just recently been made a first pilot on one of the speedy P-47's.
Freddie Carroll's sense of humor is always springing up and the most recent one I heard about him was one that he pulled on his own family. His daughter was about to have a child, so he sent her a silver spoon so that she could say that Carrolls are always born with a silver spoon in their mouths.
