It seems as if just a few days ago we were breathing a sigh of relief because we had a long summer "sans" deadlines for Alumni News copy facing us. And here it is October and we're back at the typewriter once again. But it's a labor of love, and a real pleasure to pass on the scraps of information that we have received about classmates. So without further hesitation we'll plunge into the business of the past few months.

There was a modest gathering of '39ers on July 14 at some remote spot generally in the locale of Pound Ridge, N. Y. Jerry Beatty, BertMacMannis, Curt Anderson, Dick Jackson,Larry (Dilkes) Vulte, and their ladies were on hand. It is rumored that there were a few more starters who were scheduled to appear, but the obscurity of the gathering spot must of necessity have kept them from attending. Big Lar Vultd was a surprise arrival in as much as he had recently been a resident of Coral Gables, Fla. He is now located at RFD 5, Ridgefield, Conn., and is still flying for PAA as a master pilot out of NYC.

Here and There: Hot and tired after an eight hour day in NYC, your correspondent boarded the commuter special some weeks ago and was completely refreshed by a chance meeting with Rod Albright who we'd been led to believe was in sunny southern California. But no,—Rod is now a neighbor, living on Taconic Road, Greenwich, with wife and child. There is every indication that they will be joined by another small fry in the future too. Rod is a photographer, and is presently connected with Pictorial Films, RKO Bldg., NYC. They are a subsidiary of Pathe News and an up-and-coming outfit. Rod also passes on the information that John Evans has left his parish in Sharon, Conn., has re-entered the Army as a Captain, and has been appointed Deputy Staff Chaplain of the 12th Air Force at March Field, Calif Grafton Burke was recently promoted to the rank of Captain at Tilton General Hospital, Fort Dix, N.J., where he is serving as a ward officer. He was called to active service in the Army 13 months ago and has been at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, and Walter Reed Hospital, Wash., D. C From Howdy Fishbach we have a thumb-nail sketch, starting with his departure from Dartmouth after his freshman year.

"I returned to the University of Cincinnati during my sophomore year for completion of premedical work. Then I went through medical school in 1942. I interned at Cincinnati General Hospital and then went through the Graduate School of Surgery. In 1940 I married Evelyn Ogg, a former Bostonian, and we now have H. P. III, aged 2 1/2. We are living in the outskirts of Cincinnati." Bob Kaiser is with the Dif Corporation in Garwood, N. J., and is living with his wifeand son in Westfield, N. J. He passes on theinfo that Jack Boynton is in business for himself in Plainfield, N. J From Dr. Kev Fayin a letter of some months ago we quote,

"Very soon I hope to move into our little home here in West Hartford, Conn., on Hampton Ave. Just started into a new field, Industrial Medicine. I am Plant Physician at the Underwood Corp. I haven't learned much about making typewriters but the pitfalls of life and the medical aspects involved therein are very intriguing."

... .Al Loberg, still with General Mills Inc.,has moved from Buffalo to Exeter, N. H.,where he is manager of the Farm Service Store..... Seen at the Hanover Inn during the summer were, Dr. and Mrs. J. H. Johnston, ofBrooklyn, Sam Lawton and wife, from Chicago, Johnny Perry and spouse of Weston,Mass., Alex Lansberg and wife from Hartford,Dr. and Mrs. H. A. Imus from Alexandria, and Bill Remington from the Nation's Capitol

Down the Aisle: Dan Cupid has been active during those hot summer months, and so we can report that Ralph Sperry is now husband to Charlotte Gardner, as of June 7. The marriage took place in the United Congregational Church in Bridgeport, and '39er Sam Hird was on deck as an usher George Boswell married Elizabeth McKenzie of Rutherford, N. J., June 14 and is now at home at 349 Nassau St., Princeton, N. J. (right in the Tiger's den) Howie Chivers and Jane Gile plunged into the friendly sea of matrimony on June 19, and Bill Russell was up Hanover way to help the proceedings And in the department of marriages to be, we have Bob Als pert announcing his engagement to Miss Corinne Stroock Galinger of NYC in June withwedding plans for October, and Jocko Vincensbecoming engaged to Mrs. Glen Touart Barnesin April with plans for an August wedding, which of course, must have been completed bynow On September 6, Bert MacMannisand Sally Blake (sister of Bert Blake '4O) announced their plans for an October 3 wedding, and among those present at the announcement were Dan Dyer, Jerry Beatty, Curt Anderson, Dick Jackson and their wives.

Following the Stork: Irv Naitove put us upto date on the little Naitoves recently, so wecan report three, John Samuel, born April 25,1947, Kathleen Royce, born January 19, 1946,and Patricia Harris born April 14, 1943

Esther and Bill Prudden gave us the good word on son Douglas Neil, born April 10, who joins Miss Ann Benham who arrived way back in December of '44 Mai Wallis and wifePhyl report the birth of their third, Pamela Jeanne, born June 7 and weighing a tidy at birth. All this at Oak Ridge Hospital, Tennessee Don Hagge '42 writes about the Dartmouth-Wausan, Wis., Baby Derby, which at the moment finds his brother Bob Hagge in the lead with the arrival of Bob Jr. on Friday the 13th of June. Bob now leads cousins Ron Westgate '42 and Dun Schuetz '42 w ho each boast only one offspring.

.... Ken Mac Donald and Nono welcomed Garth Saville Mac Donald on July 28, at the Virginia Mason Hospital, Seattle. He weighed in at 7-6 which lends proof to the theory that they grow 'em big out west.

The Clearing House: The big news of the summer along the lines of official pronouncements is the retirement of Dusty Rohde as Treasurer of the Class due to the pressure of business. The Executive Committee have duly elected George Hanna, now residing at 50 Phillips St., Boston, Mass., and George is now official guardian of the class funds and the financial commitments.

By now all hands are probably familiar with the big job that the class did in the Alumni Fund campaign. For the record, we finished a very close second to the perennial winners of our derby (Class of 1941) and were near the top in adding contributors who were giving for the first time. Dune Farr and his team of experts deserve a good parcel of praise and a long low guttural Wah-hoo-wah for a good job well-done!

BEER PARTY: '39ers gathered for a few sandwiches and a lot of beer at Pound Ridge, N. Y. on July 14th. Left to right, front row, Jane Vulte, Mary Jackson, Mef Anderson, Joanne Beatty, Mary Fehrendorf. Back row, Larry Vulte, Dick Jackson, Bert MacMannis, Jerry Beatty, Curt Anderson.
