The report of our 50th Reunion came off the press in season for distribution just before Christmas. It was distributed at once not only to class members and members of bereaved families, but to as many secretaries of other classes as the limited edition warranted. Below quoted are a few of the acknowledgements:
"The published Proceedings is all that could be wished for by any member of '95. Don't I owe something toward meeting the expense? I stand ready to contribute. Unanimously the remnant of '95 should thank you for your generous labor of love in preparing the materials for publication. On laying aside the Proceedings this quatrain came forth:
"Our sun has set; "But still 'tis good to know "That , even yet "Remains an afterglow."
(It is for any of you to guess who wrote the above).
"The Class Report was most timely and made enjoyable holiday reading. You and Fred are certainly to be congratulated; you did a fine piece of work. I am proud to be a member of the Class of '95. John E. R. Hayes."
"Your kindness in sending me a copy of the brochure issued in commemoration of the Fiftieth Anniversary of Dartmouth 1895, of which you are secretary, is appreciated.
"I have read it through from beginning to end, and while I have not had the pleasure of knowing many of the members of your class, yet I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
"Your description of the first meeting you had with President Bartlett is quite in keeping with other incidents that took place in encounters with him during the time our class was in college.
"In my first interview with President Bartlett I learned from him that we each descended from a common ancestor, Richard Bartlett, who came from Sussex, England, and settled in Newbury, Mass., in 1634. On account of my name my classmates, freshman year, nicknamed me 'Prexy' Bartlett, a name which still clings to me when I am spoken of by my intimates in college—the few that are left.
"Next June, at the annual meeting of class officers in Hanover, I hope to have the opportunity of meeting you.
"Your brochure is a welcomed addition to my file of similar publications. I thank you for sending it. Ralph S. Bartlett, Secretary Class of 1889."
