The class treasurer and the class secretary, chaperoned by Cy MacKinnon and his wife and eluded by Art Van Kirk, who was last seen beating up-wind toward the Chicago River, had a secret session at a Chicago restaurant that must have been headquarters for the Bund at some time or other, on the first cold Friday in January. The treasurer reported that class dues were coming in like requests for three day passes on Thursday afternoon. Some fellows who have been beyond the reach of mail (and Mattimore's duns) in the past have sent dues for past years, which the guardian of our exchequer looks upon with favor. If anyone who has not kicked through is in doubt about the treasurer's address, it is at the top. of this column, and the dues are $3.50, subscription to the MAGAZINE included.
Ben Baldwin, who started with us and finished with '40, because of illness, has been officially reinstated as a member of '38, at his request. It's good to have him back.
The Distaff Side:—Al Wing's wife writes that they are living in South Dartmouth, Mass., and that Al is assistant treasurer of the Charles F. Wing Co. Al Jr. was born last August 19. My dossier reveals that Mrs. Wing was formerly Mary Wigglesworth of La Grange, III., before their marriage in 1944. It's always diverting to receive perfumed letters at the office, so let's hear from some of you other feminine readers of this column, if there are any.

Kudos:—For Bob Carroll, Lieutenant Commander USN, who recently received a Bronze Star to add to his Silver one. Bob is allegedly at the. General Line School which the Navy has at Newport.
For Harold and Honey Storch, who became the proud parents of Phoebe (how's that for alliteration) on October 9.
Department of Utter Confusion:—Clark Mattimore's recent letter, which was really pretty good but which ended, this is a horrible letter." At least it was in writing, and it came on the reverse side of a new one-page treatise entitled Mattimore on Marriage. Matty recently missed Bud Walls in New York, but Hank McDuff and Whitey Mays didn't. He further reports that Jim Tompkins was married in June to a lovely lassie from Oklahoma and that Jim and his bride are now living in Toronto, where Jim has set up an organization known as Tax Control Records Ltd. He was recently in New York, as was Bruce Olson, who is working in Rockford, Ill. Graham White is with Price Waterhouse in New York and Muff Davis is with Life magazine in Cleveland. Jerry Hochberg is devoting his full time to writing music and lyrics now. Bruce Tompkins is working for Standard Oil of New Jersey and living at the Dartmouth Club. Jack Slattery, according to Matty, has left New York for San Francisco. And all of that news makes me disagree that it was a horrible letter.
Also in the category of utter confusion is a note which I stuck in a vest pocket last August, after running into Squee Ellis in Concord, reminding me that he was at Reunion last July. That's the trouble with wearing vests. I just found the note.
Phil Sutherland writes that he is a staff industrial accountant for Continental Can Company and consequently covers a lot of the East Coast, from Massachusetts to Florida. He is living in Flushing, Long Island, or rather he would be if he could find a lawyer to evict the squatters who are living in the house he bought. Phil has recently seen Shad Stone, who covers New England for the Stanley Works of New Britain and John Ahern, who has his law office in the Pemberton Building in Boston.
A good letter from George Dana reports that he has added a second daughter to his menage: Nancy Lothaine was born in December, and her big sister, Gracey, is now two and a half. George has been at the Cincinnati General Hospital since his relieve from the Army last winter; he is training in Internal Medicine. His family is evidently living somewhere in Pennsylvania, as he said he was off to join them for the holidays. Hoby Rockwell is also now a papa—Christina having been born on October 15 last; she is versatile, as is her father, for she laughs, cries and says ahhh. Hoby sings to her so much he thinks he should have gone out for the glee club instead of basketball.
My spies tell me that Ross Borneman's wife is angry with me because I've never announced their marriage (which proves that I have at least one other feminine reader). As a result Ross says he may be forced to write me. In self defense, I plead that such news was in von Pechmann's time.
I really have more news this month than there's room for, which is a step in the right direction. I wish I had time to answer all your letters. Thanks for them, and thanks to Art Soule for taking over last month. Bob Archibald will report on West Coast activities some time soon.
