This writer has in front of him an article which appeared in Vol. LI No. 3 of the American Journal of Sociology, on "Social Organizations in a Small City." This is a survey of Boulder, Colorado, with its 268 adult social organizations, which is. a relatively large number when compared with other places. It is written by Frederick A. Bushee. On this and similar articles Fred has been awarded the following citation:
You may possibly have noticed an article in the February American Sociological Review, entitled "Measuring Degrees of Verification in Sociological Writings." It may perhaps interest you to know that your article in the American journal of Sociology, vol. 51, PP- 217-226, rates among the top fifteen per cent of the 1076 articles which have been scored upon on this scale. Counting quantity and quality of articles published in eight sociological journals during the past three years, your personal score is in the top five percent of the 726 sociological authors whose articles have been rated. Due to your contributions, the Sociology Department of the University of Colorado is one of the departments, among all the universities and colleges in America, which during the past three years have produced the largest amount of sociological articles scoring high on the verification scale. It ranks above Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Purdue, Stanford, and many other famous institutions.
If any friend of '94 had wandered into Patten's Restaurant on Court Street in Boston on Thursday, May 8, the day when these notes are being written, he would have found seven '94 men gathered around a festive board, namely, Spooner, McGroty, Lyon, Marden, Knowlton, B. Smalley, and C. C. Merrill. The party was held especially in honor of Spooner and McGroty, who are en route from their winter in Florida. Spooner expects to entertain his usual large company at his antique store in North Bridgton, Maine, this summer, and McGroty will make his headquarters at Beacon Chambers in Boston.
