Under the directive of Big Chief Widmayer this column shall be at a minimum this month and the entire space will be devoted to the Matt Jones Fall Round-up which was held at the spacious home of Arthur and AnnStone on Christian St., in Hartford, Vt., October 6. It was the 40th anniversary of the beginning of this Fall Round-up. For 25 years it was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jones in Newton, then for twelve years at various hotels or clubs in Boston and vicinity, and now for three years in the homes of members of the Class. The total attendance this year was 27. Breaking it down, there were ten members of the Class, six of whom brought their wives, and one of whom brought his daughter, as follows: A?nes and wife; Cassin;Colby and daughter, Miss Louise; Field; Hall and wife; Marden; C. C. Merrill and wife; Parker and wife; Stone and wife; Welton and wife.
There were six wives of deceased members, one of whom brought her daughter and sonin-law, another of whom brought her daughter, as follows: Mesdames Gifford; Hurd;G. E. Mann; Mudgett with daughter and sonin-law, Mr. and Mrs. Pratt Penniman, with daughter, Mrs. Strong; Sawyer. Our distinguished honorary member, Miss Charlotte Ford, completed the grand total.
Regrets were received from the following: Messrs. Bushee, B. A. Smalley, Lovejoy, Knowlton, Gibbon, Martyn; and from Mesdames Jenks, Balch, Darlow (Clogston), Lewis, MacMillen, Blakely, Spooner, Amey, Howland, Tenney, Adams, Grow, Ruggles, Ajax Rollins, Hoskins, Kate Rollins Read, J. L. Mann, Griffin and our other notable honorary member, Catherine Jones Babcock.
Summa cum laude went to Frank DeckerField for coming all the way from Lincoln, Nebr., to attend this Round-up. Moreover, he came alone, which was a great advance from the exquisite care taken to have him properly chaperoned, which accompanied his attendance at the 60th. The more operations he and other '94 men have the better they seem to be!
Ann and Arthur Stone were royal hosts. Their dining room was large enough to hold us all, their living room ditto, and above all their hearts. Nothing was left undone to make us happy and we were happy.
A most interesting aftermath of the Roundup came on Friday when Arthur and Ann Stone, Mrs. Stone's sister, Ben and Mary Welton, and Decker Field, who was staying with the Stones, journeyed over to Peru, Vt., and made a call on Mrs. Bud Lyon. It did Mrs. Lyon no end of good and was characteristic, one must believe, of the thoughtfulness which pervades the '94 family.
Next year we are invited to the home of Don Colby and Miss Colby at Claremont, N. H.
