Letter from Billy Ames. "April 30, 1950 Dear Charles:
You should know that Nettie and I had the pleasure of standing up with DwightHall & Alma Jenness when they were married at 9 a.m. today.
Billy"
In its terseness, succinctness and "nuff sed" character, this is worthy of Dwight himself. Congratulations from all of us to Mr. and Mrs. Hall.
The 28 '94 men (graduates) now living are distributed in 14 states (considering District of Columbia as a state). This is an average of two to a state. As a matter of fact, however, the distribution is as follows: Massachusetts, seven; New Hampshire, five; Vermont, three; Maine and New York, two each; and one from Connecticut, Indiana, Nebraska, Colorado, California, Mississippi, Florida, District of Columbia, and New Jersey, Spooner is assigned to Maine, Ames, to New Hampshire, and McGroty, to Massachusetts, although these gentlemen spend their winters in Florida.
The Secretary has been enjoying several chats with George W. Robinson, who was a member of our class for three years, and then went to Harvard where he graduated in 1895. Who's Who in America gives an interesting account of his career. For 24 years he was Secretary of the Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. However, he has spent a great deal of time in producing books, as witness the following list: author of six books, translator of six more and editor of another four. He has also written historical, philological and literary articles in the HarvardStudies in Classical Philology, and other publications. He has also had time to bring up a family, consisting of three sons and one daughter. He seems to be in good health, although he does not indulge in pedestrianism with the alacrity of younger days. At present he is engaged in completing
MAGNALIA CHRXSTI AMERICANA: OR, THE ECCLESIASTICAL HISTORY OF NEW ENGLAND From its First Planting in the Year 1620 Unto the Year of Our Lord 1698 By COTTON MATHER
Billy Ames reports a good winter in Florida, and in spite of the hurricane a good crop of grapefruit (1000 boxes) and oranges (2500 boxes) "besides what the wind shook off, and the price per box is higher than last year."
The Secretary by telephone and letter has been in contact with three '94 wives with these results: Aubrey Luce (known to outsiders as Lewis) was cutting his 80th anniversary birthday cake. Woody Parker was seriously ill and expected to have a hospital check-up the next day. Frank Balch was also ill, but had his wife send the Secretary an Easter greeting. He was 80 April 25.
