On October 14, the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Philadelphia held a very successful luncheon for all members of the entering freshman class and their fathers from this area. This event took place at the University Club and some 25 alumni were on hand to welcome the new members of the Dartmouth family.

On Friday evening, October 1, some sixty Dartmouth alumni and guests attended a PrePenn Football Game dinner and smoker at the Princeton Club. Ernie Wright '28, President, called for a period of silence in memory of our most popular honorary member, Lou Young. Following a mellow cocktail hour and a delicious roast beef dinner, various Hanover representatives were introduced. Rod Wolbarst '43, new director of athletic publicity, said a few words about the team and the coming season. Then George Colton '35, executive secretary of the Hopkins Center Fund, was asked to stand but since we were mainly concerned with football he did not speak to the group as a whole on the splendid job being done by his alumni committees throughout the country. However, as an interesting sideline, it was learned in the course of the evening that "Sherry" Baketel '20 headed a group of local alumni that at the present writing leads in results to date.

Jack Barr '49, executive manager of athletics, told the group something about the undergraduate enthusiasm for the 1948 edition of the Dartmouth football team. "Snuffy"Smith '41 received a tremendous amount of attention when it was learned that he had tickets on the 50-yard line for the game with Penn the next day. Len Dill, Secretary of the General Alumni Society of the University of Pennsylvania, invited Dartmouth alumni to attend the luncheon at Houston Hall before the game. When Coach "Tuss" McLaughry was introduced, it was Heinie Wright '17 wholed a couple of loud cheers which echoed upand down Locust Street. Finally Bill McCarter '19, director of athletics and principalspeaker of the evening, delivered his usualexcellent talk and the meeting adjourned toa long evening of songs and beer.
