Rog Allen is hereby nominated the Home Run Baker for this month on the basis of a highly informative letter addressed from Keflavik Airport, Iceland.

"I have been up here for about six weeks on a year's assignment with the Iceland Airport Corporation, a subsidiary of American Overseas Airlines formed to operate Keflavik Airport (formerly Meeks Field) under contract to the US government and according to the terms of the agreement between Iceland and the US. I had been up here three weeks in the spring and two more in August, so had met many of the people and had a pretty good idea of the situation I would be meeting.

"This is a public relations and liaison job with the Icelandic press and various governmental and private agencies. The people are extremely nice and hospitable, very similar in appearance, manners, and customs to the people of other Scandinavian countries. The weather is similar to lower Connecticut, New York, or New Jersey, with the exception that occasionally we are subject to very high winds. The airport is extremely good operation-wise, and an extensive building program gives assurance of abundant, attractive, comfortable accommodations in the near future. The number of transatlantic airline planes coming through here is increasing monthly. American overseas, Trans Canada, British Overseas, Scandinavian Airlines, Air France, and Royal Dutch Airlines plus the Army and several charter airlines are stopping quite regularly.

"I haven't found any Hanover-bred Icelanders (A 1 Dickerson tells me he can't recall that we ever had any), but I get mixed up in Harvard groups in town every now and then. Many of the young fellows have studied at American colleges and universities. The only Dartmouth guy I've seen up here was Bill Pettengill '37, a flight dispatcher with American Overseas in New York who stopped here on a check flight.

"It was with real interest and pleasant surprise that I followed the Big Green this fall. It was certainly satisfying to see them win as many games as they did and in all cases to play such sharp spirited ball as compared with last year's sad attitude.

"That is about all for now. There are many happy memories of Reunion and I'm looking forward to the next one.' My best to everyone."

Thanks Rog, and may occasional flights bring a classmate to your doorstep for an unofficial reunion.

This is the month, I have been informed, when the list of Alumni Fund contributors appears with the class notes. The class has not reached the one hundred percent goal, and I for one believe there are several reasons why this is so. Many just plain forget despite the outstanding job the committee turns in each year with mailing pieces and direct approach. Having been in this group I know exactly how they feel when they realize the oversight. Others do not ante because they feel unable to make a substantial contribution and therefore send nothing. This is false pride in my humble opinion, for the spirit behind the gift is equally as important as the amount, and a buck that is hard to dig up cannot be measured in any other way than the loyalty it represents. Admittedly out of the park when it comes to Alumni Fund discussion, I do believe this represents the truth of the matter. Why not send what you have set aside for the Alumni Fund this year right away and insure that our class percentage truly indicates the tremendous enthusiasm for Dartmouth '37 has had from freshman year on?
