DARTMOUTH MEN
Luncheon Every Monday Noon University Club, Chicago
THE FIRST HANOVER HOLIDAY in Chicago was (in the lingo of our Hollywood brethren) stupendous and colossal. Held at the University Club on February 6, there were 150 of the local alumni and their wives who crowded Parlors A and B to meet Professor Herb Hill and to hear Dr. Chan talk on
"China's Choice" and Professor John Clinton Adams discuss "The Balkans." The informed and engrossing speakers made the afternoon hours pass rapidly as they fed us information with which we may astound our friends and food for the ensuing thoughtful hours, which the "holiday" provoked.
Following a cocktail party which averaged three and a half drinks per guest, we gathered 350 strong in majestic Cathedral Hall to dine and thrill to the football prognostications of "Tuss" McLaughry and to hear a report on admissions and the "Great Issues" by President Dickey.
In addition to the enthusiastic local men whose names appear regularly in this column, we welcomed Sig Larmon '14 of New York (here to promote plans for the Hopkins Center), Bob Bliss '27 of Janesville, Wisconsin, Brad Brown '28 of Milwaukee, Dave Burner '25 of Decatur, Dave Mortin '29 from somewhere in Nebraska, and Blyth Adams '29 of Mill Valley, California.
Hank Embree '30, hard working and heavy worrying chairman of the entertainment committee, is now planning for the glee club and musical club show on April 3, at the Bal Tabarin. The evening is planned as a formal affair with a dance to follow the musical and vocal performances.
This association has nominated Justin Stanley '33 as a candidate for member of the Alumni Council Trom District III to succeed Gene Hotchkiss '22, who has completed two terms and is not eligible for reelection.
The Nominating Committee announced at a luncheon on February 16, the following slate of officers to be submitted to the annual meeting of the Association to be held Monday noon, March 8, at the University Club: President, Robert S. Critchell '33; vice-president, Henry S. Embree '30; secretary, Robert McClory 30; and treasurer, John A. Wright '32; Executive Committee members, Frank P. Wardwell '34 and Connor B. Shaw '43. The afore-mentioned nominees, if approved by the general association, will take office on Monday, April 5.
