DARTMOUTH MEN Luncheon Every Monday Noon University Club, Chicago
SATURDAY, APRIL 3, 1948, was Dartmouth Day in Chicago! The Glee Club and its director, Paul R. Zeller, arrived by bus in the course of their busy tour and we greeted them 650 strong at the Bal Tabarin in Chicago's Sherman Hotel. There was a cocktai party and dinner before the boys began to sing and it was nigh on to 9:00 p.m. when we arrived with wives and friends for the concert. The Bal was radiant with huge colored kodachromes of the College and surrounding country which were projected on the walls on either side of the stage. A large green facsimile of the Great Seal of the College was projected on the wall above the stage.
Our special favorites among the boys in the green blazers who sang so beautifully were BillEmbree '50, son of our alumnus Bill Embree of the class of 1921, Gordon Hinners '45 and George Hinners '49, son of our alumnus brother Ralph Hinners '22. There was also a big hand for soloist Paul Malinosky '46 who comes from some other city and who sang "If I Loved You."
When the last song had been sung, many of us stayed to dance. During the dance the pictures projected upon the walls were replaced by shots taken during the course of the evening, including one of Hank Embree '30, who as chairman of the Entertainment Committee was principally responsible for the Glee Club party.
Another year of our association activities has closed and it seems appropriate to take note of the achievements of our local organization under the guidance of Donald MacKay'20, who has now succeeded to the reverent role of Past President. Don carried on where Bill Embree left off in making this association a medium for the expression of the Dartmouth spirit among a greater number of alumni in this area. Don directed the resumption of publication of the Dartmouth News-In-Chicago which is something the association lacked for about ten years.
In addition to the other regular activities, Don helped inaugurate the "First Hanover Holiday in Chicago." It was very fitting that his year as President should be climaxed with the brilliant and gay Glee Club concert and dance. It was a tremendous year for this organization and the College and its alumni have reason to be justly proud of a son as loyal and as symbolic of the highest in the traditional spirit of Dartmouth as Don MacKay.
Taking over the reins as local president at our luncheon meeting on April 5 was BobCritchell '33. Other new officers this year are Hank Embree '30 as vice-president and John-Wright '32 as treasurer, while the undersigned carries on for another terra as Secretary and your correspondent.
News and inquiries may be addressed to the undersigned at 122 South Michigan Avenue, Chicago 3, Illinois.
