While the most prevalent activity of the membership has been "peerading" to various New England and Eastern stadia (or to neighboring television screens) to witness the heart-warming winning ways of McLaughry, Clayton & Cos., the executive committee has been busy planning for the big Dartmouth- Hofstra basketball game scheduled for the Hempstead Garden on February 27.
This promises to be the biggest event ever sponsored by an individual alumni group. It is the first time a major team of any Ivy League college has appeared on Long Island, and Hofstra, which has been making quite a name for itself in the Metropolitan (New York) Basketball League during the past feyears, will be primed to the hilt in anticipation of humbling the Big Green in their first meeting. Regardless of the winner, this will be a game to see. Indicative of its possibilities is the fact that Madison Square Garden Promoter Ned Irish is "mumbling" over being scooped by the Long Island Association in coming up with this "natural."
Applications for tickets will be in the mails in December. All seats are reserved with choice seats being allocated on a basis of "first come, first served." So get your checks in to Treasurer Phil Orsi '28 at 14 Bayview Terrace, Manhasset. Tickets are $l.80 each (tax included) plus 10 cents for postage and handling. Proceeds go to the Scholarship Fund.
Lt. Col. Dave Schilling '39, commanding officer of the 56th Fighter Wing during the war and leader of the first jet group crossing the Atlantic in 1948, was our guest at the Dartmouth Night meeting at the Garden City Hotel. Dave is now stationed at the Pentagon and living in Arlington.
Congrats to Past President Harry Collins '18 on his reelection as Nassau County Judge.
