In August Arthur llsley wrote as follows: "I am as well as usual and have been quite busy all the year, chiefly at professional engineering. Last month I was recalled to my old job in the Navy Department from which I automatically retired four years ago. Of course this work is a temporary assignment, but as it is in connection with the defense plan your guess is as good as mine as to its duration. I have many friends in the Bureau (Yards and Docks) and I took up that work again with much pleasure. This retirement business is a headache. While I was going through the formality of being initiated again some of the personnel people remarked on the date of my birth and some found difficulty in determining the color of my hair intimating that the sample wasn't large enough to form an opinion."
Prescott Clark, grandson of our classmate Charles Clark and son of Russell Clark '26, has been accepted for Dartmouth '54. Another grandson whose father is Leonard Clark '31 hopes to make Dartmouth '56.
Harry Allen returned to Gaysville, Vt., in June but expects to go back to Henderson, Mev., this fall. Judge Bert Holland and Helen (Mrs. Holland) spent the summer at their summer home in East Dennis, Mass. Bert wrote that Helen's condition is about the same as a year ago when she was able to get about in a wheelchair after the shock she had suffered. The last word from Weston ivas to the effect that a leg injury had caused him to hobble about with the aid of crutches but that his general health is good in spite of the diabetes which he keeps under control with insulin.
On September 1, Mrs. Geiger and I were delighted to have Dan Hadlock '87 and BertRogers '92 drop in. Dan, who was one of the founders of Casque and Gauntlet, is as young and alert as ever. The next morning there was a most enjoyable small gathering in the lounge of Hanover Inn when a group of us were entertained for an hour or more by Al Foley '20 and Robert Lincoln O'Brien '91. As soon as Al finished one of his inimitable stories Robert Lincoln would counter with another equally delightful, each one drawing on his remarkable memory of incidents connected with Dartmouth men and other personalities, distinguished and otherwise. Among those present were Dan Hadlock '87, Robert Lincoln O'Brien and his charming bride, Phil Marden '94, Bert Rogers '92, Chester Wescott '14, manager of the Inn, Bill Geiger '31, Mrs. Ives, assistant manager of the Inn, and Bill Geiger '92.
