Another year is on its way—Reunion Year too. You'll hear a lot about it during the coming months, but not right now.
Under the practiced and capable guidance of Class Agent Ed Scully, the class of 1947 finished second in the Alumni Fund's Little Green Derby, with a combined rating of 144, only four points behind the leaders, 1945. With a carefully-picked group of Assistant Class Agents and a well-timed and wellplanned campaign, Ed led the class through the campaign with a steadily improving position in the Little Green Derby to raise $3271.11, just 75 percent of our class objective, a larger percentage of class objective than any of the "younger classes." 411 classmates contributed in our sixth year of active participation in the Alumni Fund drive, the sixth year under Ed Scully's guidance.
On July 18, Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Barton became the proud parents of Charles King Barton 3rd. Ted Clark is engaged to Mary Katherine DeForest of Burlington, Vt. Ted has completed his third year at Harvard Medical School.
During the late spring and summer months, many '47s have deserted their bachelor standings for a more responsible married status. The events we announce in this month's MAGAZINE extend from April to September.
On May 11 the former Miss Eleanor Ida Lebenthal, a Smith College graduate, and Gerard Bissinger were married at the bride's home in New York City. The couple planned a wedding trip to Bermuda before settling down in New York City.
In Mt. Pleasant, S. C., Miss Esther Du Pr£ Gregorie, a graduate of the University of South Carolina, and Jack Gray were married on the night of April 20. The Grays are living in Charleston where Jack is attending the College of Charleston.
During this summer the former Miss Ann Prescott Hosmer was married to WilbertGreenlaw. Among the ushers were GilbertTricco and Tom Gustenhoven. Wilbert is associated with the engineering department of the Crosby Steam Gage and Valve Cos., Somerville. Upon their return from a wedding trip, the Greenlaws plan to reside in Belmont.
A newsy letter from AI Hall tells of his marriage June 16 to Margaret Hyde Gilpin in West Chester, Pa. Hugh Chapin was A1's best man, and Don Page served as usher. The bride is a Mount Holyoke graduate. A1 and Merryhave a five-room apartment in Payson Hall, Easthampton, Mass., where A1 is on the faculty of Williston Academy. A1 said the '47 ski team was going to start getting into shape at Moosilauke over Labor Day in hopes of retiring the Inter-Class Cup through sheer vitality in March of next year.
Bill Hallager, present at A1 Hall's wedding, was engaged in June to Miss Jean Adams, daughter of the present Governor Sherman Adams of New Hampshire. Jean is a graduate of Simmons College and Bill is a Tuck School alumnus. Announced in May was th( engagement of Miss Mary Louise Dow to RussHathaway. They plan a fall wedding.
John Havens, manager of the New State Theatre in Pittsfield, Mass., was married June 18 to Joan Vitaline Carpentier of Fort Edward, N. Y., by his uncle, Rev. George Gratton. Mrs. Havens was office manager of the Krimm Lumber Cos. in Fort Edward before her marriage. The Havens are living in Allen Heights, Pittsfield.
John Joyce Jr., an engineer with John E. Joyce, plumbing and heating contractors, was married in April to Miss Lucy Cecilia Matthews in Forest Hills, L. I. The Joyces had a wedding trip to Bermuda and then settled in East Orange, N. J.
Two graduates of the University of Maine, John Kelly and Pauline Marcous, were married June 10 at Lewiston, Me. John was at Dartmouth during V-12 days and is now with Westinghouse Cos. as engineer. He has been located with plants at Pittsburgh, Glen Ridge, jsf. J., Buffalo, Philadelphia, Cleveland and is now permanently assigned to Boston.
Marriage announcements continue with the Bob Cronsons who were married in Chicago, July 3- Bob received a law degree from the University of Chicago, which institution, the bride, the former Miss Teresa Morgan Van Wie, also attended.
Bob Laggreb and Jacquelyn Craig Vail were married this summer in Englewood, N. J. The bride is a graduate of Miss Hare's University School for Girls in Chicago and Bob is a graduate of both Wesleyan '43 and Tuck School. Bob was a Marine first lieutenant during the war and is now associated with the All States Insurance Cos., Chicago.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Mayo enjoyed a wedding trip this summer to the West Coast after their June marriage. The bride, Olga Kavochka, is a graduate of Colby Junior College and School of Medical Technology at Mary Hitchcock Hospital. The Mayos will live in Boston where Dick is attending Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Louis Pernokas, who received his degree this June from the Harvard Medical School, was married this summer to Charlotte P. Johnson of Boston. The bride attended the American University in Washington and worked for several years for the Navy Department in Washington. Mr. and Mrs. Pernokas spent their honeymoon on Cape Cod, and on their return, settled in Boston where Louis is afliliated with Boston City Hospital.
Mary Hope Minton of Jackson Heights, L. 1., and Red Scollard were married during July. The bride is a graduate of Tufts College, and Red has completed the course at the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration and received the M.B.A. degree.
At a June wedding in New Haven, Anona Hope Johnson and John Sayers Jr. were married. The bride attended New Haven Junior College.
A very recent marriage in Libertyville, 111., is that of Mary Louise Butterfield to Hjalmar"Moon" Sundin on September 10. Moon is attending the University of Illinois.
Jack Young, class executive committee member and chairman of the Pennsylvania regional class organization, was married on June 15 in Swarthmore, Pa., to the former Mary Lee Hartzell.
An August wedding was planned for Joan Hackett and Bob Williams. The bride is associated with Vogue Magazine, and Bob is with the Springfield Fire and Marine Insurance Cos.
Charles White and Anne Starr Holmes were to have been married July 22 in Watch Hill, R.I. The bride was graduated from Westover School, Middlebury, Conn., in 1947 and attended Bryn Mawr College.
On August 12 a Paris wedding was planned for Margaret Chew and Earle Welch. Earle is associated with the American Express Cos. in Paris. Miss Chew is a recent graduate of Barnard College and has studied at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland.
