Many times during the past several years, we have told how the Dartmouth Outing Club of Northern California would soon have a cabin on the Club's property at Donner Summit in the Sierra Nevada for the use of those who enjoy the mountains and winter sports. At last, as the accompanying picture shows, the cabin has four walls and a roof, and will shortly have gass in the windows, lights and heat instal'ed, and a finished floor on the present rough deck. Cooking, and other, facilities are already in use.
In sho''t, the place can and will be used through the coming winter season.
At a recent meeting of the Board of Directors a graduated schedule of fees for use of the cabin was tentatively set up. Preferential rates are given to club members and former members as well as to those who have given of their time and effort in the building operations. Priorities were also established for use of the space, which is definitely limited, but which may be expanded later as the need arises. The present timber cabin is one room, about 20 by 24 feet, with the adjoining Quonset hut available for auxiliary use.
With the increasing popularity of the Donner area, and limited hotel accommodations in the vicinity, especially during the ski season, it is very gratifying that Dartmouth men and their families now have a place to spend the nights at small cost during a weekend or longer if desired. All that will be required, in addition to bedding and other personal equipment, will be a little forethought in making- a reservation for a given time. Let's use it often for enjoyable outings.
