From Mrs. Benjamin Simonds o£ Pottsville, Pa., comes news that her grandson Donald Simonds has entered Dartmouth with this, year's freshman class. The young man is the son of Carlton Simonds '24 and grandson of our Ben Simonds. Thus arrives at Dartmouth a third Simonds generation. Donald's sister is a successful laboratory technician, with her own laboratory in New York. Mrs. Simonds senior reports herself enjoying good health and all the family prospering.
Another three-generation family to attend' Dartmouth College is that of Truman O. Harlow. His son Harold C. graduated in 1915 and is now with the General Electric Cos. at Lynn, Mass. Harold Jr. '42, of the third generation, returned recently from three years in. Greece where he taught at Pierce College. While there he saw much of the guerilla country, traveling in a truck with soldiers and a tank in the establishment of relief stations. These are now managed by the Greeks themselves. He also traveled extensively in Turkey and the Near East, including Jerusalem, where he had an intimate opportunity to see and study its problems. He flew home by way of Holland and is now acting as Assistant Prof, of Sociology at Springfield College. To be in America in time for school, his little daughter Linda flew home alone from Greece. Harold Harlow's daughter Althea is taking courses at Northwestern University and plans to follow social religious work.
The Center Daily Times of State College, Pa., announced September 25 that the Library of the College had been named "Fred Lewis Pattee Library," honoring the late Dr.Fred Lewis Pattee, a graduate of Dartmouth and for 34 years a member of the faculty of Penn State College. This action, announced by the new President, Milton D. Eisenhower, was taken at a recent meeting of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees. Then followed a summary of Pattee's career as outlined in "In Memoriam" of the July issue.
