As you know, each year all over the country committees are set up to interview prospective students. Many members of our class are serving in these important jobs. Two members of our class, Art Jopson and StanNewton, are chairmen of two of these committees. Just another example of the interest that the Class of 1945 has in the future of the College.
Sherm Crough returned to Hanover early in December for a visit at the Hanover Inn.
The engagement of Charlotte Lyman to Jack Gile has been announced. An April wedding is planned. The marriage of Barbara Van Winkle and Sid French took place in Maplewood, N. J. in November. Mrs. French is a 1947 graduate of Smith.
If you will allow a bit of personal information, I want to tell you of our Christinas. Mimi and Don Campbell were our guests for dinner, Don supplying the Manhattans and hors d'oeuvres. We were wondering how many other '45 families spent Christmas together.
Herb Boedtker is Sales Engineer for Westinghouse in New York City. John Bressler is an accountant with Haskins & Sells in Chic ago. Bill Brown is living in Syracuse now. Just called Bill Brown on the telephone and found out that he is also in the insurance business travelling N. Y. State for a Mass. fire company. He and his wife are just in the process of moving so we have postponed "gettogether" plans until they are settled. Bill tells me that Charlie Murphy has a new boy baby. Charlie is in his father's law firm in New York City. Had a note from Marty, Charlie William's wife. Young Rick is now a hefty 34 pounds and quite an adorable nuisance. Marty reports that he lost her engagement ring about two months ago and they have been unable to find it. All parents should heed the above and keep such things locked up at a bank. I am sure that no strong-box at home will do the job. Charlie is still with Ferro Enamel and very happy.
Bones J. Broderick gave me this bit of news himself so I don't know why it isn't perfectly all right to pass along: "We (Bones and Barb) have a Bambino under-way and he (she) is scheduled for May according to the best slide rules we can find in Boston. I grow more enthusiastic over this group business by the day (not so loud, Bones, '45 is loading this field already). The year in general was pretty slow (uh-huh!) but the fall has been wonderful. I expect to be here another year or so then to some smaller office."
Then there was a note from Jean, wife of Art Pounds, telling about the progress they are making on the house they are building, and I do mean they are doing the building. At the present they are living in a trailer on their building site near Elyria, Ohio. By they I mean Art, Jean, Baby Karen, a cat, a dog and seven pups. Who said the pioneer spirit is disappearing?
Geoff Maclay and Edie wrote another one of those very personal notes and I quote: Life here in Milwaukee is progressing nicely. Rip (their son) is probably as much of a heller as yours is so we're planning on double trouble in another few months. Haven't seen a soul from Hanover except the Campbells (Don W.) who come up from Chicago and JackAhearn whom I bumped into at a Dart- mouth-Cornell luncheon when the Green showed their superiority."
Lyn and Bud Ellms mention that Carolyn is now 4½ and Chip is 1½. They sent along a fine picture of Bud and Chip which I hope appears on this page. Bud's business is fine and besides he finds time to play in a dance band on week-ends and is about to start teaching skiing. Next spring they plan to build a home. They mention seeing the DickSouthwicks and the Stan Nexutons from time to time.
That's all there is for now.
BUD ELLMS '45 and son Chip like to take it easy on the sunny side of the house. A daughter Carolyn and wife Marilyn make up the rest of the family.
