A pleasant, somewhat nostalgic, note from Lou Wallis included a picture of his charming home. In a setting of palms and shrubbery with a view across a well-kept lawn out to sea, it breathes of calm contentment, though it is only ten minutes from the business center of Miami. He speaks of missing the rugged exercise of the 700 acres of his New Hampshire home; abhorring crowds, he dreams of life with Elizabeth on some isle in the Caribbean; he looks back fondly to the great days of 1901-1905 in Hanover. Their two sons are busily engaged with nuclear fission, one in Los Alamos, the other in Al-buquerque.
A brief note from Fred Chase, in Dunedin, Fla., stated that he was looking forward to the arrival of Charlie and Ruth Goodrich. He enclosed a clipping to the effect that Norm Stevenson was leaving Hanover for warmer days at Captiva Island, Fla.
From Mt. Dora in that same land of sunshine, where he and Isabelle are enjoying life, C. C. Hills sends a copy of a bulletin of the Leesburg Rotary Club in which are recited some of the achievements of Lee (Leon)Smith. It mentions that Lee and Frances came to their home in Fruitland Park in 1949, and that Lee "is a Mason, an Elk, a Baptist and a mighty good Rotarian."
I am indebted to The Bulletin, that interesting sheet which keeps class officers informed of what is happening in Hanover, for this late news of Marion and John Tuck's famous son. Lt. (j.g.) John Jr. '54, safely home from Antarctica, gave a lecture, illustrated with handsome colored slides, to a capacity gathering in Dartmouth Hall. On that occasion he presented a DOC flag which he had flown at the South Pole.
After a somewhat prolonged stay at the hospital, Roger Brown was able to report that he had made a good recovery from his operation and was to fly with Jane to Florida on Saturday, February 1, for a three months' stay. He added in his note that Royal Parkinson's wife Ida had fallen on the ice near their home and broken her wrist very painfully.
