The Dartmouth Club of Toledo was greatly honored in having a very distinguished guest as its first speaker of the new year. President John Sloan Dickey paid his initial visit to Toledo on January 25th and firmly won the hearts of all the local alumni.

A special luncheon was held in the English Room of the Commodore Perry Hotel with the superintendent of schools and the principals of all the local high schools as guests of the Club. This was an excellent opportunity for President Dickey to discuss informally with these men the admissions requirements of Dartmouth, the availability of scholarships, and many related problems. It was felt that this was quite worth while in selling Dartmouth to a particular group of men who can undoubtedly help a great deal in influencing many desirable students to select Dartmouth.

A banquet was held that evening at the Toledo Club with 80 present. A special presentation was made by Carleton Broer '27 in behalf of the alumni of this area to the college in the form of a check for $3000.00. This money and more which will be added from time to time will be used to aid students from this area.

President Dickey told the alumni what is happening on the Hanover scene, highlighting it with a few choice personal observations. He praised the way the undergraduates are assuming a greater role in the handling of student problems. Their recent action on racial and religious equality was cited as one of the forward steps they have taken.

Stanley J. Newcomer '20, our new president of the Club, presided at the banquet.
