Another month, and from the volume of mail received, it looks like none of you got writing utensils or stationery for Christmas. Therefore, this column will just have to stagger on from its own weight.
Clippings graciously supplied from Hanover tell us that Fogg Grow, ex-Theta Chi muralist and man about Hanover, is now a married man. He and his bride were married on Thanksgiving Day. She is the former Helen M. Foskett of Manchester, N. H., and was graduated from Mary Hitchcock School of Nursing. They honeymooned in New York and are living at 8 B Lyndon St., Concord, N. H.
Roger Jackson and Miss Rosemary Ellen Riley of Waterbury, Conn., announced on November 19. She graduated from Edgewood Park Junior College and Roger graduated from Mt. St. Mary's College, Emmittsburg, Md.
More about the Mart Smiths. They honeymooned in Bermuda and are now living in Meadowbrook Village, Plainfield, N. J. A clipping datelined Nov. 12 notes that Pete Betts is back in the Army. His address at that time was Fort Dix, N. J.
Recent visitors at the Hanover Inn were Mr. and Airs. Russ Blackwood of Hamilton, N. Y., Walt Cairns, Mr. and Mrs. BillMatthews and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Weir of Emporium, Pa.
Haynes Miller is now in Johnson City, Tenn. He may be reached at 708 Unaka Ave., that city.
The only two bright spots of the month in regards to correspondence were letters from Bobo Russell and Bob Merriam, both of which came in very recently. Bobo writes:
"I must admit that the ALUMNI MAGAZINE damned near scooped me concerning my engagement.... We (me and my intended) were in Boston one week and we saw Dick Greene at a party and I did announce my intentions (always, always honorable) to him... am hoping to get up to Hanover for Carnival.... Of course that is like a lot of other things that I am always planning to do next week read the Bible, go on the wagon, stop picking my nose, be kind to my mother; but I am really going to make an effort to get up there." Bobo, incidentally, is Sec'y-Treasurer of the F. L. Russell Corp. in Saugerties, N. Y.
Bob Merriam has stepped in and is doing a bang up job on class organization. Still needed are leaders' in the Chicago and Cleveland areas. Irv Tuttle was planning on getting the fellows in his area (Hanover-Nashua) together on Feb. 10 so it's past the organizational stage in at least one area. This scheme has tremendous possibilities and is dependent on just one thing, the cooperation and participation of you. The need is more than apparent. Our class was probably the least contiguous group that the Alumni office ever put in a file together. This does not mean that we cannot build a strong unit that will be a credit to both those in the class and the College.
The last two or three letters from the Alumni Office have been pretty grim. While many of us have been hearing of the government's regulations dealing with college students and remembering that some of us were dragged out of college without any qualms in Washington, this same news greatly affects the fate of Dartmouth and many other privately endowed colleges.
When the fiscal plans for the College's next year were being drawn up, it was figured that there would be a slight deficit. Now the official estimates are that the enrollment may be off by 25% next fall. Such a drop means a loss of $400,000 in student fees, not to mention loss of dormitory rentals. Some compensating measures can be taken to somewhat offset the deficit, such as cutting back the teaching staff and closing up dorms, but the overhead will bear much more heavily on a greatly reduced revenue.
If we wish to see Dartmouth endure through times like these, it is up to us, you and me, to help support her.
Tugging at our purse strings are multitudes of worthy causes but liberal education is the greatest basic weapon we have in a world where ideas and ideologies govern the fate of each and every one of us.
Getting back to Bob's letter, he enclosed several clippings and changes of address which follow:
Ray Richard and Miss Mary-Elinor McKenney were engaged in January. Ray is a sports writer for the Brockton (Mass.) Enterprise-Times. Miss McKenney attended Seton Hill College and graduated from Mt. Saint Mary College. She is teaching in West Bridgewater, Mass. They are planning a late June wedding.

DickGreene can be addressed c/o Officer Student Detachment, 8579 AAU, Fort Holabird, Baltimore 19, Md. Dick is in the Army Intelligence school there.
A phone conversation with Pete Norton discloses that he and Myra are expecting in August. I like to get these pink and blue notices but word of mouth seems to be the only way. Since most of my news comes from a clipping bureau, I miss the birth notices. They don't bother with collegiate affiliation at a time like that, for some reason.
Once again it is time to close for the month. Let's get behind the class organization and make it work. And plan on giving something to the fund this year. So we don't get a booby prize for being in last place.
