Summers certainly fly when you're having a good time, and here it is Labor Day and time to hit the typewriter to beat out the smattering of class news which has accumulated since May. Not as much of it as there should be due to your shameful neglect in writing me. How about that letter you meant to get off by this time passing on your dirt to me?

To start the ball rolling this fall I'll dip back into May when I attended two separate Dartmouth functions and bumped into a few of you. On May ai here in Rhode Island we had our annual dinner out at one of the large country clubs, and the attendance was excellent. Dr. Hopkins, as guest-speaker, was the principal attraction, and two classmates, Harvey Nolan of North Smithfield and Gerry Farnum of Newport, were among the boys there.

Two days later I made the annual spring trek to the Alumni Officers' Meetings in Hanover where each year we try to decide alumni issues and fates. Others present were VailHaak, your Agent, and Bruce Benner of Chicago who is that city's Association Secretary. Vail, incidentally, completed his first year as Agent and did a really fine job for the first year at it. It's far from easy to step into that job, and Vail filled the breach remarkably well. Thanks a lot to Vail and his aides for a fine job.

On July 1 I met Dave Vogels, your Class Treasurer, out of New Bedford when a civilian, for lunch here in town. Dave was home from Randolph Field on leave from Army Air Corps (ijst Lt.) preparatory to going to Japan and Korean duty as a navigator. Just last week I got a letter from him over there acknowledging his safety, etc.

Speaking of Korea reminds that HarveyNolan has received more, and more historic, plaudits for his sensational Korean escapades, the latest being the decoration by the Governor of Rhode Island in behalf of the Marine Corps awarding Harv and his proud wife Jane the Navy Cross for further heroic action over there. Earlier this spring Harv had received the Silver Star, so I think Ave all owe a deep bow and a tip of the hat to ex-Lt. Harv Nolan. Another mate who did his job well real well. The photo of the award was four columns in our Providence paper. Take my word for it that we've got a brave lad among us.
