It's New Year's Day in Rhody the first day of what I hope will be a happy and prosperous year for each of you. It's been a fine one from this scribe's point of view already, and if it resembles 1952 it sure will be an eventful year.

'52 went out in a blaze of glory in this holiday season, and at Christmas time I heard from a whole batch of guys.... Lew Geer,Paul Erwin, Bert Rodman, Johnny Stockwell,Herb Gramstorff, Terry Maphis, Harv Nolan,Mike McGean, Chet Palmer, Dave Vogels,Dave Gifford, Mrs. Jay Rosenfield, Bill Ballard, John Sweetland, Summy Arneson, EdNicholson, Dave Strasenburgh, Ken Wheeler,Roy Lovell and Tom Swartz.

Messages accompanied several of these, so I enclose the poop they disclosed. Tom Swartz asks whether Pat and I plan to attend Carnival this winter. He says he and Ann, Summyand Nonie Arneson, Rocket and Barbara Reed and Carter and Mrs. Hoyt all plan to stay at the Moose Mountain Inn and have a gala time. My plans as yet are undecided, but our child prodigy, now aged 10 weeks, may decide for u5.... Harv and Jane Nolan got an early Christmas present in the form of a second son, born December 8, named Alan Michael.. .. Barbara Rosenfield writes for hubby Jay who is "touring the Mediterranean on his ship." Jay's due back in February, but meanwhile the Mrs. is traveling to Naples to join him. Jay is an Ensign following a successful O.C.S. Training in Newport... .Ed Nicholson writes from the Detroit area where he's with J. L. Hudson, Merchandisers. He reports that the Dartmouth crowd in that vicinity, notably the younger ones, are considerably less active in alumni affairs than the Denver crowd where Ed was previously....

Herb Gramstorff writes as a civilian from New York. Herb hit the States from Germany November 1, was discharged November 5 and is now working for the National Credit Office Market Planning Service in the big city....

Chet Palmer writes from Urbana, 111., where he's at the University of Illinois to finish up his Master's in History. He'd been attending the University summers in this quest while teaching winters, but finally decided to polish it off for good. He thought it would be easier to do polishing it off but he finally thinks he "can see some light in the distance." Once with a Master's, his future remains uncertain, but probably the profession of teaching will be the proper enticement, though he was not overwhelmed with its advantages in the first initiation he received upon Dartmouth graduation....

Word from Alan Winslow's father says that after studying for two years at the University of California in Landscape Architecture, Alan is spending a year studying in Stockholm, Sweden. I hope someone's warned him about those Scandinavian surgeons!!!!

A couple of letters from King Ball, a representative in Chicago of the North American Insurance Companies. King requested names and addresses of guys in the area, and I was glad to comply. Hope by now he's had an opportunity to look a few of you up.

In my change-of-address list from Hanover I can spot several vocational hints, so I'll pass them along; Rog Atwood works for the NewYork Times in Wawa, Pa. that's one of the strangest names for a town I've ever heard!!!! Paul Barnico is a G.E. Mechanical Engineer living in Swampscott, Mass.... Tom Barr is a Civil Engineer in Augusta, Ga., working for E.I. duPont John Daukas works for General Motors in Portland, Me.... Jep Ellingwood is in Production Engineering (I believe with Raytheon Corp.) living in Waltham, Mass.... Wade Elliott, still with Pan American Airways, now has a Chicago address.

... Bill McMorrow is an Ensign in the Navy. Was coming out of the elevator in our office building back on December 10 and I bumped smack into Ritchie Hunt, who was waiting for a pal of his to come down. Incidentally, the pal is a Brown man, of all the revoltin' developments. Ritchie sees Charlie and Mrs.Yardley often. They're expecting their second child soon, are living in Brookline's Hancock Village, but looking for a place of their own. He said Jep Ellingwood recently lived in the Village, but since has moved (to Waltham, above). I said that both the Bert Rodmans and the Summy Arnesons lived there too, but he didn't know that. Ritchie himself has been out of the Army about two months and is job-hunting. He says El Baritz is also a recent dischargee. While a G. 1., he met TomTowler and Bob Smith in various locations. Ritchie also visited the Reed Parkers about six months ago, where all was fine

Recent Hanover Inn attendees were the Nathan Gottschalks of Oberlin, 0., on December 11.

My only "social news" of the month is the announcement of the engagement of Dr. StuSilver of Akron, 0., and Point O'Woods, Long Island, to Miss Mary Patricia Dunn of New York. The wedding is to take place in February in West Orange, N. J. Stu is a graduate of Cornell Medical College and is interning in surgery in Bellevue Hospital.

That seems to be it for this month. Take care of yourselves, and HOW ABOUT A LETTER?
