It's nice to get mail even if it serves mainly to point out my mistakes. My apologies to classmate Robert B. Hill. We Robert B's should stick together, but instead in the October Class Notes I proceeded to complicate Bob's matrimonial status considerably. Bob must have been no little surprised when I announced his commisssioning in the Air Force and his marriage. It seems that the Robert B. Hill featured in the newspaper clippings supplied me is not our Bob. I trust your wife takes such things in stride, Bob.
John de la M-O-N-T-A-G-N-E, writes from way out in Laramie, Wyoming, mainly to complain about my misspelling his name in the October Notes. I guess October was a tough month for me. Surely you don't think I could forget how to spell de la MONTAGNE, John, ole boy, ole boy. However, consider the poor typist faced with the problem of reading my writing. Besides, I have to get mail out of you jokers somehow.
Leslie D. (Bud) Allen died in an automobile accident October 28 leaving his wife, Paula, and two children. He was engaged in personnel and educational work for the Glens Falls Insurance Company. Johnny Bullard wrote in to say that Bud had become a prominent and highly respected member of the Glens Falls, N. Y., community in the few short years of his. residence there. Bud will be sorely missed by us all as a classmate and a friend. His family and friends are establishing a memorial fund in his memory, to be administered through the Glens Falls Foundation.
We can expect big things to start happening in New England. The New England Council is an association headed by the governors of the New England States to promote industry, recreation, and agriculture. As previously reported, the Council has already given DexRichards an award for promoting New England recreation. Now comes the word that fat ole Dave Heald, executive director of This Is New Hampshire, Inc., is helping the governors to appraise New England's economic situation for 1952 and to decide how best to marshal their natural and human resources in 1953 for regional development and national defense. Dave, can't you start by doing something about the B & M?
Captain C. Bateman Ewart Jr. reports that he managed to survive his first summer in Tripoli, Libya. Being a drummer from 'way back, Bate, can't you work up a little air-conditioning biz on the side? Don't you think you ought to keep your hand in some civilian racket, in case Ike does cut the budget?
Another '42 gone wrong: Ray Wattles is at Harvard in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. Incidentally, Ray, you characters in Boston didn't do a very good job of rootin' in the Big Green footballers this past fall.
George Tobias is engaged in —of all things - politics. I never would have thought it of you, Gawge! George, an electrical contractor, was recently appointed Douglas County Commissioner (round about Omaha, Nebr., I think). What is an even more starting bit of intelligence, my operatives report that George is contemplating matrimony! That's fair warning for Jim Farley and Bill Mitchel. Before too long you're going to be the lone bachelor entries from the class.
Ed Ferbert writes from Erie, Pa., that he recently built a ranch house on Lake Erie. Ed, you are just the guy I need to help me fix up my recreation room.
Mississippi State College has forwarded a dispatch which casts further light on the current activities of Prof. A. Alexander Fanelli, social psychologist. Alex is a member of MSC's three-man team conducting an intensive case study of selected Mississippi communities as a part of a new program of research in political and social psychology.
The Hanover Inn in October played host to a couple of Massachusetts members of the Class of 1942, Lt. Walter J. Haley of West Roxbury and James B. Thompson of Winchester. Here's our thought for the day: When you good people of the class of 1942 get back to Hanover drop us a line and let the "other half" know what it's like back on the campus. Did'ja see Fletch? What do you think of the new Nugget? And other such important bits of information.
Remember! There is still time to send your four bucks to Charlie Sturz for the class dues and the ALUMNI MAGAZINE if you haven't already done so. Take four from all that dough you'll save, now that Ike's going to lower taxes.
This month we have happily consented to hold down the length of the Class Notes in deference to the Alumni Fund Report, but next month we'll have lots of space, so let's hear from you, and you, and you.
