This month we feel rather jubilant, what with the "new lease on life" and all, given to us by the Ike victory, but this is only personal. You may be happy or sad over the 1952 election, but more important was the fact that for the first time most of us exercised our right to vote in a presidential election. A fine feeling.
We promised months ago some dope on EvO'Dell. Well, here it is: Ev joined the Air Force shortly after graduation, and has since been to Finance School in Denver. This was way back when, but he saw Champ Smith and a few days of KP duty. Ev was a Corporal, and at last writing was at Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson. Also with the Air Force is Bill Leffler, who spent last summer with the rest of the hot tamales in the deep south. Bill got a pass from out-the-back-door Harry T. to go up to Hanover for the Rutgers rassle they certainly don't call it football. He saw BobGoode and wife, who are back in Hanover to finish up. Also seen was Harvard Business learner Harvey "Red" Goldstock. ChuckEccles, Doug Frandsen, and Kent McKenzie were all at Air Force OCS in Texas, and while traveling, Bill also reports he ran into Pinky Pfaff, just up out of Greenwich, in Times Square, and Bill Halpin in Galveston, Texas —just out of Air Cadets. Frank Johnson is about to wind up at the School of Advanced International Studies in Wash., D. C., and from there it's service bound.
Last summer, Frank traveled Spain's wine castles with Dave Philips, who is now studying in Madrid, at the Fiesta, and between the two of them, we understand, they have become more Spanish than the Spaniards. According to Hal Smith's mother, Hal is a Marine Cpl. at Cherry Point, N. C., and doing radar work. Many thanks to Bill Leffler for all the above info. Bill is at Alexandria AFB, La., doing personnel work, in charge of sending personnel to service schools. John Hodgson was awarded his ensign's commission way back in May. Sorry, John, and all others, for my for-a-change lateness. Harry Berwick Jr. is at Lackland Air Force Base, where he is probably by now a 2nd lieut., and Rog McA lister has completed his training for instrument and night flying at Pensacola, Fla. By now, Rog has been commissioned an ensign. Richard Bucey, graduate of the Yale Divinity School, has been appointed director of Camp Claire, a summer camp at Hamburg Cove, Conn. Dick is also continually active in YMCA work. Charles Blood is assigned as statistical clerk in the office of the Comptroller, Budget and Statistics, Finance Center, at Ft. Benjamin, Harrison, Ind. From NYC word comes that Aaron Ransen has been chosen editor of the State University Medical College newspaper, The Caducean. Aaron holds a predoctorate fellowship from the National Association for Infantile Paralysis, and a state scholarship for the study of medicine. Edward Lathem has been appointed to succeed the assistant librarian, William Lansberg, at Dartmouth's Baker Library. Lucky Ed, treading the Hanover plain daily. BobHustek has long ago received his M.A., while a fine newspaper clipping about a letter received from Lt. Dick Reed tells us as follows: "How many of you will not give blood. .. . They (the Marines) are going to do the fighting, why can't some civilian at home spare a pint of blood." Dick says all men in the Marines not having a medical or personal reason almost have to give. What a request to make of men about to go to the front lines. I'm sure Dick, who is now with a replacement draft at Camp Pendleton, Calif., would join me in asking you able '51ers to donate a pint of blood. In Dick's words, "It's the finest gift a lucky stay-at-home American citizen can give to his country." Now on to the constant list of marrieds.
The Fallen:
A Colby gal, Dorothy Redfield, snared BillBrooks way last sSay. The Brooks are now living in Albany, and spent their honeymoon in Bermuda. Helen Glassey is now Mrs. JuliusBarnes, their wedding having occurred last June. Julius is now serving on a destroyer in the Pacific, and Helen is finishing up at Smith College. Ensign Bill Rugg and Joyce Rawlins were married last May 11, in the Chapel-in-the-Woods, U.S. Naval Air Base, Norfolk, Va. A trip to the Virgin Islands was the honeymoon destination of Peter Mann and Mrs. Mann, the former Carlotita Luisa Gonzalez of San Juan, Puerto Rico. The happy pair are now living in Los Angeles. Wellesley Hills was the setting for the marriage of Virginia Rising and Thomas Flack. They "mooned" through New Hampshire, New York, and Michigan, and are now living in the Chicago area, where Tom is a student at Northwestern University Law School. A wedding in Norwich, Vt., followed by a reception at the Dartmouth Outing Club means the July marriage" of Roxane Whelden to Edward Isbey Jr. As Ed is attending Wayne University, Detroit, studying medicine, the Isbeys reside in that city.
Well, if you were for Adlai, cheer up; or if you were for Ike, congratulations; and as they say at Harvard, HO!
