This month's man in the news is none other than Bob Jackson, who probably won't like hearing and reading about himself one bit, but we're sure all others will. Bob's ever- lengthening experiences are now fulfilled in the rank of Lieutenant with the man's navy the Marines. Shortly after his arrival in Korea last July, and after combat in a machine gun outpost, Bob was appointed as General John T. Sheldon's aide commander of the ist Marine Division. Sheldon left for Germany, and Bob was switched as aide to Major General Pollock. Some amazing encounters have resulted he was with the general at the front as he fired the 400,000th artillery shell of the campaign was present at a dinner honoring Syngman Rhee which was attended by General Van Fleet. Just another of the 'siers making good.
We're still looking for that seedy info on Ev O'Dell and Mike Choukas's offspring we promised last writing, but moving has its disastrous effects on mind and soul. A cot in the cellar, incidentally, of our new home, awaits any of you passing down our trail. Speaking of the home front, recent dope from the East tells of Nets Bellesheim and his job as a sales engineer for Otis Elevator Co. in N.Y.C. JerryBlock, you might know, is still piling up book learnin' as a med student at Harvard, while Al Bront studies law at Columbia.
We haven't any idea what Jim Cavanaugh is doing at Northampton, but someone recently sent us his address good old Northamp! Jim, do you want to defend yourself? Have one at Rahars for me (only over my wife's dead body) and Smallwood. Don Cox is up Walpole, Mass., way in the dry goods sales dept. of Kendall Mills. Incidentally, also at Columbia Law is Rog Des Prey. Off the westward way is Dick Eitel, martini guzzling with Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corp. in sunny Santa Barbara some fellows get all the heat. Cesar and Al Estrada haven't told us what they're doing in Durango, Mexico, but maybe its ranching or oil digging. BobFiertz sweats heavy over the chem tubes at present as an engineer for Dupont, in Wilmington, Del. It's rumored that Carl Glass-berg will be checking Harry T's tax returns soon, as an accountant for Price, Waterhouse, 8c Cos. of Manchester, N. H.
Newly Embossed
Dick Barnes heads off the long list as he tripped to his wedding June 9, with his Navy ensign bars shining. The lucky lady was, o£ course, Helen Glassey-Borcic. Dick Halloran was the only '5l present at the wedding in Washington, D. C. Dick is now engaged in anti-submarine warfare and according to him, the biggest advantage of the navy school was the 8-4, Monday thro' Friday, schedule —he adds it's a wonderful way to start off married life. (Reminds me of our first days in old Hangtown....) Dick has already seen Korea, Japan, Formosa and Hong Kong. Speaking of places visited, we noticed that Mr. and Mrs.Duncan Booth stayed at the Hanover Inn this past summer ah, to breathe that crisp autumn air and sit in the grandstands Saturday afternoons looking out on ball teams and the magnificent shades of fall. To get back ... out East Orange, N. J., way last August 26, PeteBixby, U.S.A.F. Lieut, said "I do" to Helen Ferry. Standing by in the crash wagon was usher Lt. Dwight "Shorty" Allison. Helen hails from Stephens College, and also attended the Ann Reno Institute in N.Y.C. Bon Voyage to Mr. and Mrs. Bixby, and may their future someday bring them back to St. Paul, Minn. Tom Flack and his bride of last June, Virginia Rising, were also lucky Hanover visitors of several days in June. Tom is now located in Chicago. Bob Goode must be back in the states, since we reported him in Japan, as one of the "spies" recently sent word of his recent marriage to Frances Denk of Indianapolis, Ind. And in Missoula, Mont., we find that Roger A. Bradley and Mary Teresa Topel are now Mr. and Mrs. Their address is now Butte, Mont., after their honeymoon touring Canada. Don Smith and June Vanderborgh became man and wife August 23 at West Sayville, L. I. The lucky Smiths mooned in Bermuda, and are now living in Sayville. Jean Novak and I. Craig Murphy were another Bermuda- mooning couple. Jean is a Green Mountain College graduate. Guess we'll have to shelve the marrieds for another month, and, incidentally, we're still looking for the Class Boy someone take the honor quick, however, we've got a character here whom we wish could qualify "Chip" Dartmouth '74!
Nearly Caught
A Mt. Holyoke Senior, Louise Dresser, and Martin Person have announced their intentions to wed, along with Donna May Oberlin and Josiah Welch. And Champney Smith, USAF, got a "yes" from Joanne Williams of Baltimore and Goucher College fame. A lucky Hanover couple, Nancy Lou Adams, of Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital and Dick Sampson have made marriage plans —as have JimRobinson and Wanda Walbridge. A dinner party in Detroit announced the plans of Joan Grace and Dick Austin, while in Boston, George Biggs and Jean Hansen become promised. Enough fallen ones for this issue.
The Last Word
Hear thro' the grapevine that Jim Keegan is orderly and general handyman at Bridgeport (Conn.) hospital. Fine way to spend a summer vacation. After eight months' study, Calvin Groves has got himself a certificate in Museologie (the study of Museums) from Le Louvre. A nice letter from Paul Wenger gives us the dope on his first year at the University of Chicago Law School, and his appointment by the Dean to the Moot Court team. This team will represent the University of Chicago Law School in the Midwest Regional Competition in November. Great honor for Paul, as the team consists of all third year students and him. Paul also tells of his being chosen to compete for the school's Law Review meaning he puts in a year of research and then may be eligible for a position on the Editorial Board. He hopes his accomplishments will tempt you other "Laws" to write of yours.
All for now, and since it's a foggy, rainy day, I'm off to my duck blind and a few mallards.
