The Dartmouth Club of Western Pennsyl vania held its annual Dartmouth Night celebration at the University Club on October 17. About 40 men turned out for the affair, a disappointing number considering the excellent program planned by Co-Chairmen Sam Coombs '44, Bud Devlin '38, and JimMelville '50. After an extended cocktail hour and a pleasant dinner, Rog Donner '31 opened the evening's entertainment at the piano with a group of Dartmouth songs.
President Stew Stejjey '41 M.C.'d the program in his own inimitable manner. MauryBaruth '45, graciously substituting for JohnBird '44, gave an excellent summary of Daniel Webster's contribution to Dartmouth. DickCassiano M. A. '48 then introduced our guest speaker for the evening, the Pittsburgh Pirates' all-time great third baseman, Pie Traynor. Pie gave a very penetrating report on the outcome of the 1952 World Series, and he completely captivated everyone with his frank and candid analysis of the Pirates past, present, and future —and the sincere and witty manner in which he answered even our most embarrassing questions concerning the future development of the Pittsburgh ball club. After a pause for refreshments, we closed out a most enjoyable evening with the showing of Dartmouth's "Football Highlights of 1951."
Co-Chairmen Jim Olsen '43 and SawyerKier '29 are hard at work on the plans for the annual father-son luncheon to be held December 29. Since the basketball teams will be in Pittsburgh at that time participating in the first "Keystone Classic" against Duquesne, University of Pittsburgh and Cornell, the Club plans to entertain Coach Julian and the players at this traditional luncheon.
