A record turnout of over 125 alumni, undergraduates, fathers and guests attended the Dartmouth Club of Western Pennsylvania's annual Father and Son Luncheon on December 30 at the Hotel Sheraton in downtown Pittsburgh. Rem Drury '48 was in charge of all the arrangements for the luncheon, and the record attendance alone is ample evidence of his excellent job of preparation.

Between the luncheon courses, Sam Ewart '19 and Rog Donner '31 led the group in a medley of Dartmouth songs, with the able assistance of Fred Brown '57 at the piano. After the meal, Mac Comer, our president, started the festivities by asking the Dartmouth men present to stand up and introduce themselves and their guests. Following the introduction of the people at the head table, Mac turned the meeting over to BillEaton '17, who introduced the speakers.

Bill called on several of the undergraduates to say a few words. He asked Johnny Steel Jr. '54 for an upperclassman's view of the year to date in Hanover and a comment about the outlook for the winter sports teams. Don Miller '57 was called on to tell a bit about the freshman class, its activities and athletic teams. Charlie Cummings '57 spoke a few words on behalf of his dad, Gus '27, who is our Alumni Council representative and unfortunately was out of town on business.

Our guest of honor and main speaker was Tom Hamilton, Director of Athletics at the University of Pittsburgh and father of Tom Jr. '55. Tom interspersed several excellent stories into a fine talk on the important contribution of team sports, particularly football, toward the building of character and the attributes necessary for success in postcollege life.

Mac Corner announced at the close of the luncheon that plans are underway for the Club's annual dinner meeting in March, as well as for a big Glee Club concert and party on April 8 during the spring recess. We closed this extremely successful Father and Son Luncheon with the singing of Men of Dartmouth.
