The annual meeting of the Cheshire County Dartmouth Alumni Association held December 27, at the Hotel Ellis was one of the most successful in the Association's 38 years of existence. President John Sloan Dickey and Secretary Sidney C. Hayward were the principal speakers and were enthusiastically received by 85 members and guests.

In a business session prior to the main speakers, George Hanna '39 reported for the steering committee on prospective students for Dartmouth. Results were very favorable, as the County has a strong corps of eleven men at Dartmouth while Keene has four fine prospects for next fall. The following officers were elected for the coming year: President, GeorgeR. Hanna '39; Vice-President, Charles F.Burke '23; Secretary-Treasurer, Russell G.Putney '22. Executive Committee: Francis B.Donovan '23, William H. Watson Jr. '38, Russell M. Garfield '41. Examining Committee: George T. Kingsbury '38, Charles F. Burke '23, W. Harry Watson '03.

Mr. Hayward spoke briefly of the fine loyalty of Dartmouth alumni and the many ways in which it manifests itself. Aside from the remarkable showing each year of the Alumni Fund, many alumni are active workers the year around on committees and in association of fices. He also said that the parents' weekend just inaugurated a few years ago is growing in popularity each year.

President Dickey's address was thought-provoking and intensely interesting as he said, "For the first time in human history nations now possess the power to make their mistakes complete and irretrievable. We used to say that time will take care of everything, but now if the forces of the A bomb and the H bomb are unleashed civilization, as we know it, is not likely to survive." After the speech President Dickey met all alumni and chatted with various groups until late in the evening.
