The 59th annual meeting of the Cheshire County Dartmouth Alumni Association was held Tuesday evening, December 29, 1970, at the Keene Country Club. President C.Wellington Clark '37 welcomed 55 members and guests. In a short business meeting the following officers were elected for the ensuing year. President: Richard W. Bowlen '30, vice president: H. Hamilton Chase '47, secretary-treasurer: Russell G. Putney '22.
The secretary rendered a report of the ceremonies at Wyman Tavern on October 22 when the Trustees of the College gathered there in commemoration of the first meeting held 200 years ago on the same date in 1770. This historic meeting and the reception at the Keene Country Club afterward were judged a happy Association milestone.
The main speaker of the evening was Dean Carroll Brewster who came at very short notice pinch-hitting for Seaver Peters '54 who was originally scheduled. The Dean gave a very interesting talk about the present student body reporting that the students seemed happier this year and hopefully the unrest of the '60's is over. The movie "Football Highlights of 1970" was a fitting climax to the end of the Blackman era, without doubt the greatest in Dartmouth's history.
