Class notes time again, and a minimum of news confronts me outside of the romantic field, where we have a surprising surplus. The most crucial news of the month, as far as your scribe is concerned, is that he has received Uncle Sam's Greetings, after many months of expectation. My pre-induction physical is set for next Wednesday (February 6) and should I pass it, I'll be in khaki around March 1. That will mean that Harvey Nolan will pinchhit for me while I'm off winning the war. It's a sensible change, as we merely are swapping jobs (but not rank). We let him get recalled to the Marines back in summer of '5O figuring he'd clean the whole mess up. Since he failed, despite valiant efforts (more on that later), I must finish the job. However, I haven't passed the physical yet, so don't give up on me until I get the G.I. haircut.

Right into the monthly p00p.... Engage- ments— Bill White of Milton, Mass., to Miss Alice Christensen of Nutley, N. J. Both work for the Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Co. of Newark.... Noble T. Macfarlane of Char- lottesville, Va., to Miss Claire Zimmerman of Sandusky, O. Noble is at present at the University of Virginia Med School.. .. WainrightHolt of Fairlawn, N. J., to Miss Marie Elsie Earle of Ridgewood, N. J.. .. He is a sales representative for Allison-Chalmers in N.Y.C.

...Pvt. Tom Towler of Darien, Conn., to Miss Suzanne Smith of Darien. Tom is a G.I. now after working with Socony-Vacuum Oil Co. in Lincoln, Neb... . Len Britton of Hartland, Vt. to Miss Priscilla D. Robinson of Windsor, Vt. Len works for the family lumber company in his home town.. . . Jim Zafris of Newburyport, Mass., to Miss Joyce L. Leonard of Beverly, Mass. Jack McCurdy of Rochester, N.Y., to Miss Joan Clayton of Bowness-on-Windemere, Westmoreland, England. Jack works for the family department store in Rochester....

Now into the weddings.... Corporal TedHutz of Oakland, N.J., to the former Miss Maureen Lois Brown of Woodbury, N.J., on December 26. Ted is at present a GJ. stationed at Camp Chaffee, Ark.... Mark Lansburgh of Washington, D. C., was married on December 15 to the former Miss Joyce Old- ham of Pasadena, Calif. They will live in Beverly Hills. Mark is promotion director for station KLAC-TV in Los Angeles.... Doug Thomson of Mt. Vernon, N.Y., was married on December 29 to the former Miss Betty Jane Culver of Naugatuck, Conn. Doug is in the Industrial Relations Dept. of U.S. Rubber. Two of Doug's ushers were Bob Castle of New York City and Paul Peterson of West Hartford, Conn....

The Navy O.C.S. program has lures for several classmates (including me if I can pass the physical), but two boys already in it are BobHill and Jay Rosenfield. Both go through a four-month school in Newport before being commissioned Ensigns, then serve three years. Jay already has been commissioned, and Bob is due to be at the end of the present class.

I've already made mention in an earlier column of classmate Dick Desmond's hockey prowess, which so far has landed him the first string goalieship of the U.S. Olympic Hockey Team now in Europe preparing for the Games.

• Vail Haak of West Roxbury, Mass., is our only recent Hanover Inn guest, having been there January 18. Perhaps Vail was beginning his work in this year's Fund Drive. Remember that it starts soon, and I hope you'll each pay attention to the requests from your Class Agents. We all admit that the College needs the money to operate properly, so let's get behind the Drive and do our share. Remember also that Vail's job isn't an easy one, so help him and his assistants out, will you?!!

Letters of the month. ... Pvt. Reed Parker writes from Fontainebleau, France, where he's stationed at Headquarters of Allied Land Forces Central Europe, with Paris one hour away. Reed can't wander too far, however, as prior to his trip over he became engaged to Miss Catherine Westphal of Cambridge, Wis. They plan a spring, 1953, wedding Several letters from Dave Strasenburgh up in the wilds of Rochester, N.Y. He and I (and wives) are planning a five-day winter blast at Lake Placid at the end of February (19-24). It may very well be a going away party for me, but if not, it'll be a real celebration. Either way—a PARTY.. .. Letter from BobbyAlden down on Long Island where he's not particularly enthused with his work with Pittsburgh Plate Glass following a recent army discharge. He inquired of me about the insurance business in general, and I was glad to give him my thoughts and "advice" on it in a fine telephone conversation later that week.. .. Letter from Pvt. Mike McGean of (at present) Indiantown Gap, Pa. He too has joined Uncle Sam's group (involuntarily, he assures me), but Mike has a better deal than most. As a matter of fact he and his new fiancee, Miss Lois Waring of Baltimore, have qualified for the World Championships (Ice Skating) to be held in Paris at the end of February, where he will be representing the sth Infantry Division. Mike has seen DaveVanderhoff, also at Indiantown Gap, who's giving psychological tests to prisoners at New Cumberland Army Base. Mike also reports that Cpl. Howie Wellman, another draftee, is in Germany really seeing Europe with the Army.... Another G.I., Cpl. Danny Raabin, writes, from Korea where he's with the 45th Infantry Division. Dan can't say he's happy there, but he says that the Army does equip and feed them well, and although his holidays were rather bleak this year, next year's will be just that much more to look forward to... Cpl. Francis Squibb writes from Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. where he is in charge of Regimental Information and Education. He's been there a year, with only a six-week respite in New York City attending the Armed Forces Information School. While in New York he dropped down to Washington and stayed with Emmanuel Metz who was biding time waiting to return to last year of Har- vard Law School. Francis has also run into Mike Ireland in New Canaan, Conn., where Mike is working for Yale & Towne Mfg. Cos. Also had a letter from John Waugh from California Tech where he's still chasing a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry Letter from ex-roomie Terry Maphis from Bethesda, Md. (Washington suburb), where he's job-hunt- ing after a year at the Sorbonne in France. Terry liked Europe so much that he leans towards a job with some U.S. Company with men over there. Terry has run into Bob Ma-lone who's working for the Foreign Service and about to be sent to Teheran Letter from Brian Phillips from Oakville, Ontario, where he's married and owns his own auto agency. He and wife Dodie became parents of a seven pound boy December 2, named Scott Mac Arthur Last letter of the month is from another GJ[., Cpl. Ken "Luke Soule from Fort Bliss, .Tex. Before induction, Ken was with Travelers Fire Insurance Cos. in their Wisconsin branch. He announces his engage- ment to Miss Martha Ann Hoerle of Plain- ville, Conn. Down at Bliss, Luke is attending a Master Gunner's Course in Anti-Aircraft Ar- tillery. He hears from Bob Parsons that Peteand Anne Lord became parents January 4 of a baby girl, Ann Maylew. Parsons and Jack Benham watched the Green sextet get mauled by the Yalies in New Haven 11-2.

Guess that's it for now. Remember your letters make this column possible. Remember also that the Alumni "fund Drive needs your whole-hearted support. Give IT.
