The Philadelphia Association held its second annual informal meeting for prospective Dartmouth students on January 16. Approximately 100 men attended the meeting. This included about 45 prospective students, 30 fathers and other guests, and 25 alumni.
The main speaker of the evening was Edward T. Chamberlain Jr. '36, Executive Officer of the College. Eddie, always a vigorous, interesting and well-informed speaker, gave the young men and their dads exactly the imformation they wanted in a straight from-the- shoulder manner that inspires confidence from the word "go." He spoke about education in the light of the restless conditions of this period in history. He spelled out the factors which should guide the young man in choosing between the technical school, the university and the small liberal arts college. He then indicated the objectives of a school of Dartmouth's character. Having laid the ground-work, Eddie told the audience what Dartmouth expects of its applicants, described the general story of processing applications and gave the men a good idea of what our college has to offer its students.
Eddie's speech was followed by an active question-and-answer period which indicated the serious and thoughtful interest of the young men present. The films, "My First Week at Dartmouth" and "Dartmouth Out- doors," rounded out the evening's program which was concluded when refreshments were served.
Reserve Friday evening, March 28, for our annual meeting and banquet. The business meeting, which will include the election of officers, will begin at 6 P.M. and will be followed by dinner. Our speaker this year will be Prof. Allen Foley '20, who is not only one of Dartmouth's most humorous and popular speakers, but also occupies the important and significant post of director of the Great Issues course for this year. We guarantee that you'll be glad you attended this meeting. The meet- ing will be held at The Engineers' Club, 1317 Spruce Street, Philadelphia.
