Coach Tommy Dent is now happily recovered from the stomach ailment that laid him low most of last season. He has just led his charges south on the spring trip, during which the boys got some good experience against some the strongest teams in the country and ended up with a .500 percentage, which is not bad in view of the lack of training. With a veteran aggregation, bolstered by several promising sophomores,. Coach Dent is looking forward to a successful season, provided he can come up with a goalie of major-league capacities. Bill Chamberlin and Ted Hecht are among the candidates for this still wideopen spot, although things are still in a transitional stage before the formal spring campaign opens.
Among the operatives on the defense are juniors Tom Bloomer, Scrib Fauver, and Phil Fenton, all veterans, and in the midfield Captain Ed Lyon leads a group of six lettermen. In addition to Lyon, Bill Fisher, Sandy Learnard, George Scully, Jim Fowler, and Steve Sanderson are the leading candidates. In the attack department, three promising sophomores may comprise a first line. They are Dick Gates, brother of Hammie Gates '5O and captain of last year's freshman team; Dave Thielscher, the massive and agile pass-catching end on the football team; and Sabe Abell. A second line may be made up of Bob Binswanger, Dave Dame, and veteran Tony Quimby. This is by no means the way things may shape up a month from now. Enough data have been given, however, to suggest that this might be another good year, always provided the resourceful Mr. Dent can come up with a good goalie.
