F. Lowell Haas '35 has been elected president of the Dartmouth Club of Washington, D.C. Other officers named follow: Michael H. Cardozo '32, first vice president; Karl M. Dollak '35, second vice president; Donald P. (King) Cole '19, secretary; Donald H. C. Mackay '45, treasurer; and executive committee, Lawrence C. Reeves '33, Oliver A. Quayle III '42, John English '40, Joseph A. Fanelli '32, Willis Fitch '17, Harold H. Leich 29, Dickson Loos '46, Dr. Russell Page '36, Howard W. Rae '38 and William F. Yelverton '36. Joe Fanelli headed this year's nominating committee.

Thirty-two members and guests heard Dr.Charles E. Odegaard '32, executive director, American Council of Learned Societies, give a most interesting talk on the work of his organization at a luncheon meeting April 29. King Cole '19 gave a detailed report of the annual secretaries' meetings held at Hanover May 2 and 3 at the luncheon on May 6. Rich-ard B. Hood "30, special agent in charge of the FBI Field Office in Washington, gave an interesting talk on his work May 13.

Don Mackay '45, chairman of the Washington area interviewing committee, reports that his group interviewed more prospective Dartmouth freshmen this year than ever before, the number totaling 56, with the caliber of the young men being about the same as last year Assisting Mackay were Alumni Councilor Percy H. Russell Jr. '29, Bill McKenzie,Harry Carter, Andy Scott and Don Cole '45, Jack Whitman '46, Ed Mecutchen '31 and King Cole.

The Washington Club has undertaken another important new activity, seeking youths who are tops in scholarship, athletics and leadership in high and prep schools in the Washington area, youths who have never heard about Dartmouth and who have been referred by some friend. Ollie Quayle heads the new committee which has started work on a small scale in three high and four prep schools.

It is not a one-year activity as the youths will be followed for two years, right up to the time they arrive in Hanover in the fall for enrollment in the freshman class. Fortyeight potential freshmen were guests of the Club at an informal gathering at the Hotel Statler in April. Bob Allen '45, assistant to the College Secretary, and Alvin "'Doggie Julian, basketball coach, were speakers. Two movies, "My First Week at Dartmouth" and 1951 Football Scrapbook" were shown.
