Put away the "Schweppes" lads, autumn's come and here's news of our many in number. Hank Durham is with Uxbridge Mills in Rome, Ga. He has three children and the old first baseman has settled down to family life. Having just wolfed down all reports from that leering researcher, Dr. Kinsey, I was shocked to receive correspondence from Bloomington, Ind., the home of the good Doctor's Indiana U. Fears were put aside when contents disclosed a swell note from Katherine Pillsbury. "Pills" has been out there these past two years working for his Ph.D. in Economics. The Pillsburys have a "Pills" the III., 4½ and Carol, 3 years old. Wilbur plans to return to the Knox campus at Galesburg, Ill., this fall to resume teaching in the Eccy Dept. He visited Bill Peters who received his Ph.D. from Wharton at Penn. Bill is married and they have a boy and a girl. The Carlisle Hardware chain in Springfield, Mass., has Ray Barrett as the new assistant treasurer. Congratulations Ray, keep your LUMITE inventory up. Ed Griffin is a Lt. (jg) in the Naval Dental Corps and is mauling marines' molars in Italy. His Mom tells me he will be there about six months more.
Mr. Sanford M. Treat '19 was kind enough to write a very welcome letter with photo about Sandy Treat Jr. Sandy and Marion have a most attractive little baby girl Cindy. They are in Montreal where Sandy is with Aluminum of Canada. Griff LuMbard and his wife Bebe were up visiting Sandy last winter and these former Dartmouth ski champs swung back into their art on Mt. Tremblant. Griff is living in Auburn, Me., and making shoes. He has two children.
'46's roving "ambassador extraordinary," Frank Ettari, checked in for supper and laughs while living off "foams" for four weeks when Pat was in Minnesota. Our boy Frank sees more of the class and of the campus than anyone except maybe Fletcher. And besides this he's top coal salesman this year for Dexter Carpenter. Frank gets real excited about coal. Dune Gibson received his Master of Education degree from Harvard this summer. Wild Bill Davidson has been appointed district group representative for New England Mutual covering the New York district. Good boy Will. Nick Vorys is now a doctor. The "Owl" received his M.D. from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and will intern at Pennsylvania Hospital. Our congratulations Nick, and how are "Popgun" and the little "Owl"? Chan Bowen just got out of the Air Force Medical Corps and returned home from England ready to resume his practice in medicine and surgery. It's encouraging to see the educational field get one of our finest. Don Drake was named English teacher and coach at Scituate (Mass.) Junior High. Don took his Master's at Harvard and since 1949 has been teaching up near the old stamping grounds in White River Junction.
That able assistant to the Cornell president, Snick, sends information about Bea and Charley French. They have four boys and are the Mobilgas moguls of Wolfeboro. Life is good to them up there, but a bigger house is needed for their four tigers. A tanned DonBarr rolled up to Hanover this summer in his new Ford convertible. He is conducting his security business on Bailey's Beach at Newport where he finds sure prospects among the lotus eaters. Aud and Vel Brindley have been living way up there on the hog this summer at the fashionable Atlantic Beach Club. Cabana anyone? Aud said Bob Jones (Jonesy) and Rosemary Albus of Washington, D. C., are engaged. Bob is with the Irving: Trust in N. Y. C.
And they were married this summer, plenty of them. Al Holmes to Ann Wiebenson in Cleveland. Frank Gaughen, the old squire of Lord Hall, was best man. Don Behnken and Anita Villa are being married this month in Garden City, L. I. A Sept. 12 wedding for George Jamison to Joan Aspinwall of Pawtucket, R. I. Larry Weisman and Claire Weiss were married this summer at the Pierre. Claire is a junior at St. Lawrence College. Larry and Claire toured Europe for their wedding trip. Bill White and Pat Duneau are engaged and plan a fall wedding. Bill's in business in Chicago. On Long Island JohnWolf married Rosalie Solow who is at the Graduate School of Fine Arts. John is a Doctor. Rog Butler is engaged to Myrna Brody of Des Moines. Myrna's a Smith graduate and Rog is with his dad's insurance business in Westfield.
Jack Whitman strongly deserves all our thanks for a herculean job on the Alumni Fund. We did not place high with our unwieldy class, but Jack got more total dollars than last year and a terriffic increase in the "never given before" category.
From Venezuela Hal Bowman tells of his and Gloria's interesting life in that oil country. Hal has been working on a mechanized accounting system for Gulf's pipeline activities. They have two little girls, Linda and Patti, and expect another baby in November. The Bo's will be in the states for about five months starting next spring.
Nancy and I had our fourth, a boy MacGregor Nicholas - born in July. I hope that in 1970 Dartmouth will have a tie-in plan for three.
Bob Kimball put this issue in the mails to the entire class, but to keep Hanover coming to your home each month please send Bob your dues. Au revoir.
