As I've mentioned before, one of the real pleasures of living in Hanover is having an opportunity to visit occasionally with classmates. One such visitor this winter was Dick Bowser who came to Hanover on behalf of his company, the State Street Investment Corporation, to talk with Tuck students regarding a job after graduation. Dick and Lucy spent a couple of days here and were on hand for the Alumni Hockey game. They also managed to work in some skiing on both ends of the trip. I have recently heard that Dick was elected a director of the Kalvar Corporation in New Orleans, adding to his already impressive list of business activities.
Speaking of the Alumni Hockey game, all of the "old-timers" were thrilled to watch our own Bill Riley turn in a masterful performance for the Alumni Team. The Varsity won but the Alumni, both young and old, put on a great show. Bill scored one of the goals and his wife, Bev, was presented the puck by the referee. I am afraid to say that this gesture must have been in deference to age since our classmate was the oldest man on the ice. Time does move on.
Further word on Bob Wenzel, a Foreign Service Officer with the State Department, concerns a discussion he led in Baltimore involving the political and moral questions of the war in Vietnam. Bob is well qualified to talk on this subject, having served abroad for the State Department for the past thirteen years. Julian Cohen has been elected a director of the Brookline Trust Company in Brookline, Massachusetts. Julian is a senior partner in the real estate firm of Leatherbee and Company and I believe this association was started following graduation from Dartmouth and the Harvard Business School. Larry Jaffe is director of marketing at Royal Castle System, Inc., located in Miami, Florida.
Recently read of the promotion of Dr.Dan O'Connor to Professor at St. Lawrence University. Dan graduated from Union Theological Seminary and Columbia University following Dartmouth and has been a member of the faculty at St. Lawrence since 1959. He is in the Religion Department and is Acting Associate Dean of the College.
Had an opportunity recently to read an article concerning the insurance business written by Bob Shade. Bob entered the insurance business in 1948 when he joined the Bennett and Shade Agency in St. Louis.
I am sorry to say that this concludes the news available this month and so your old correspondent has just about had it. One more report to go to close out five years in office and then to happily welcome your new Secretary. This will occur during Reunion and I hope we will have the opportunity to greet the largest number of '46's ever to return to the campus. Everything points to that being a reality and the good news continues to roll in. I'll leave it to Ralph Smith to bring you up-to-date on the attendance list but can give you advance warning that it is large and interesting. Those of you who haven't made the big decision should do so soon. In addition to picnics, parties and banquets we've added an appearance by the Injunaires and some wonderful music, both local and imported. Add to that lineup the opportunity to get together with guys and girls you haven't seen for many years and you have a winning affair.
And remember, the more the merrier, so leave your troubles behind for a few wonderful days of relaxation and fun in the North Country. Hope to see you all there.
Best regards from the hills.
