The Tokyo Alumni Club may be the farthest removed from Hanover, but it is anything but the least active. The author has been in Japan five weeks and already has had the pleasure of attending a pleasant dinner meeting in Tokyo and a beach picnic at Kamakura.

Upon arrival from San Francisco I called up my old classmate, Nobu Mitsui '43, to find out whether or not there was any kind of an organized group here. Nobu immediately informed me that there definitely was an organization and that dinner meetings were held every month, in addition to numerous social get-togethers.

Eleven alumni attended the dinner meeting at the Forbidden City, an excellent Chinese restaurant located in the outskirts of Tokyo. The classes of '40 and '43 vied for attendance honors; Fred Ewing and Jack Goodman represented '40, and Nobu Mitsui and yours truly '43. Takanaga Mitsui '15, Kyoichiro Takenchi '23, Yoji Hirota '28, George Chang '30, Sid Cardozo '38, Fred Kahn '45, and Bernie Kastenbein '49 completed the roster. Ten of the eleven attending enjoyed their dinner in true Oriental fashion, using chopsticks. One of the newcomers miserably failed to master the devilish pieces of wood, even with the assistance of all the other ten!

Takanaga Mitsui extended the group a most generous offer of an office in downtown Tokyo for the members use as a club headquarters. In view of the fact that we are scattered all over central Japan, it will give us a central meeting place and enable us to get together much more frequently. In addition, any newcomers or visitors to Japan will be able to contact the alumni group easily as there will probably be a receptionist to take phone calls once we get our new headquarters established. In the meantime, we suggest that any newcomers call George Chang in Tokyo (57-0146) or contact me at Yokosuka (Navy 3374).
