The deadline for the November issue of the DARTMOUTH ALUMNI MAGAZINE is staring me in the face, and I have held off writing the notes because up to the present time there has been very little news come in. By the time you read this column you will have read the October issue and possibly have already formulated some ideas concerning the suggestions put forth to stimulate more class spirit and keep closer affiliations with one another. As your class secretary I hope that from now on "I will receive a gradual accumulation of news from everyone, so that we can present a more informative column.

As you can readily realize I could sit, write, and express thoughts on numerous subjects but this would serve no purpose since we are all interested in reading about the views, ideas, and activities of everyone. In line with this thought, starting with the December issue of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE I am going to run a contest and give five points to each class member for each news item sent in. The contest will end on June 3 since it is necessary to have the class notes in by the 5th of the month preceding each publication. The award will be of such a nature that it will be worth receiving, and I hope possibly that Bob Craig, your new class treasurer, will help by digging down into the till so that we can present something of real value. Personally, my own finances couldn't stand too much at the present time. Maybe it might be a good idea to offer a mink coat so in this way the busy junior executives' wives would see to it that information is forthcoming. As you can gather from this, I am in a desperate situation and need news. Consequently, my only salvation seems to be some type of legitimate bribe. For example for the November issue I received four bits of news from the College itself but not one item from any member. Frankly, this is a very poor showing.

Now that I have spoken my piece, the news received is as follows: George Mason attended Dartmouth's summer session, Institute of Credit and Financial Management on August 2 to August 14.... Clarke Lyon was recently appointed to the Holyoke Housing Authority. Clarke is now practicing law in Holyoke and is a member of the law firm of Brooks, Green and Burbank. Besides this new duty, Clark is president of the Visiting Nurses Association, vice president of the West Holyoke Improvement League and a member of the Rotary Club.

Word has come from several sources concerning the appointment of George Barlow to the position of Assistant U.S. District Attorney for the State of New Jersey. This is an outstanding achievement and we should all be proud of the fact that one of our class members has been appointed to this important Government office. George was at the tenth reunion and he and "Killer" Kane were back in the good old form of undergraduate days. (Much to the regret of a number of classmates their repertoire of songs had become a little rusty during the past ten years.) Good luck to you, George. Since I have been on Federal Grand Jury duty for the past year I can realize some of the problems that you will be confronted with.

Charles Donovan broke into print with the announcement of his receiving an M.A. degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Charlie is presently teaching English at the Hill School in Pottstown, Pa. Kermit Cook, prin- cipal of Shoreham High School since 1950, has been elected principal of the Walpole Central School in Walpole, N. H. Louis Johnson is assuming a new position with the Stevenson and Co., Inc., General Insurance Agency of Pittsfield, Mass.

Those who are jumping off the deep end and whose engagements have been announced are Norm Askey to Miriam Hoyt of Charlotte, N. C. Norm is now associated with the American Radiator and Standard Sanitary Corporation in Charlotte, N. C. John Lear is engaged to Margaret Eighmey of Cohoes, N. Y.
