During the summer months, Bill Kennedy joined the Peerless Casualty staff as a claims examiner. He will be responsible for setting up a loss department. Bill has a law degree from Boston College and has worked with Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co., and Aetna Casualty & Surety Co. Dr. GeorgeLyon enjoyed a short Hanover vacation in August with his parents, Prof, and Mrs. C. J. Lyon. George has just completed a year of duty as surgeon on the hospital ship, Repose, which has been caring for war casualties in Korea. He will go after his vacation to his new assignment at St. Albans Naval Hospital, Long Island, N. Y.
On May 3, the Washington, D. C., TimesHerald pictured Sondra Cohen, daughter of Leo Cohen, opening the door to one of her father's Knollwood homes. Leo's Knollwood Development Corp. has built numerous homes recently on Washington's outskirts, and Sondra and her brother lan often join hands in pictures appearing in the Knollwood advertisements. Bob Ives features his own insurance service and insurance engineering service in Danvers, Mass.
Jim Vanderbeek has been named district geologist of Stanolind Oil and Gas Co. at Bismarck, N. D. Bill, former division geophysical coordinator in Casper, joined Stanolind in 1947 as a geologic scout in Texas. In 1948 he served as a geologist in the company's foreign exploration department, headquarters in Bogota, Colombia. From 1949 to 1951, Bill was employed in Stanolind's Canadian division office at Calgary, Alberta. He transferred to Casper, Wyoming.
Dexter Brooks continues with Arnold Bernhard and Co., investment advisers and publishers of the Value Line Investment Survey. Bill Bailey is assistant secretary of the National Bureau of Casualty Underwriters. Bill has worked with the National Bureau since his graduation in 1949 from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Finance and Commerce. Bill is a Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriter and has given several lectures on casualty insurance rate making and rating plans at the Wharton School of Finance and Commerce.
This spring, Hank Brezinski graduated from the University of Vermont with a Master of Education; Chuck Meyer received the degree of Bachelor of Laws from St. John's University; and Tom Leggat received the degree of Bachelor of Laws from Harvard University. Don Ruegg, safety supervisor in the operating department of the Santa Fe Railway in Emporia, Kansas, was graduated this past July from the Institute of Business Economics at the University of Southern California, a six-week course in the principles and operations of the free enterprise system, inaugurated last year by the railroad and the university. This course won a Freedom Foundation medal for its contribution to the American Way of Life.
August visitors at the Hanover Inn were Mr. and Mrs. John Ianiri and Mr. and Mrs.William E. Carroll. John Quincy Gooding has been named manager of the Quincy, Mass., branch of the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co. John has been associated with Pittsburgh Plate Glass for over two years. Marvin Cline has been named instructor in psychology at Wells College, Aurora, N. Y. He received his M.A. at Cornell where he has been a teaching assistant, and completed the requirements for a Ph.D.
Larry Coachman has been appointed research assistant in the expanding Northern Studies Program of Dartmouth College. Last year he was assistant to Cdr. David C. Nutt, arctic specialist at the Dartmouth College Museum, and has been a member of several expeditions sponsored by the College in conjunction with the Arctic Institution and government agencies. Larry now lives in Norwich, Vt. V. T. Burke is aboard the USS Ernest G. Small, FPO San Francisco.
Dan Center continues teaching in Derry, N. H. Larry Denton has returned from the Navy to CBS-Hytron, Inc., Danvers, Mass. Cy Helm continues as chief field engineer with The Western Co., Midland, Texas. Dr.Edward Matthews is back from the Army with the Cincinnati Children's Hospital. LenSommer, recently reported in St. Louis, Mo., has now moved to Denver, Colo. Dr. JohnTower is assistant resident in Pediatrics at the Grace-New Haven Community Hospital.
Edwin Burke is at the USN Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif. J. Patrick Mulligan continues with the Department of State as Assistant Attache, Manila. Lt. SamuelPacker is also at the USN Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif. The Robert Grosbys are proud parents of Mark Jonathan, born August 2, in Norfolk, Va. Bob received his LL.B. in 1950 at Cornell and is now a lieutenant in the legal office, U. S. Naval Station, Norfolk, Va.
