YESTERDAY (November 16) was in some ways typical of the past week or so on the athletic front and in others it mirrored the changes that have taken place. For the first Monday since the start of the football season Coach Tuss McLaughry called for a Big Green workout as the Indians began preparations for their final game with Princeton. In the Davis Rink a 45-man varsity hockey squad and a 40-man frosh team started their second week of practice under the watchful eye of Coach Eddie Jeremiah and on what Jerry hailed as "that beautiful sheet of artificial ice." The basketball squad also was on its second week of practice, with Coach Doggie Julian beginning scrimmage sessions. Fall was moving into winter and Dartmouth sports were keeping pace with the season.

Generally speaking, Dartmouth varsity teams this fall have done about as expected. The soccer team won seven and lost one, but failed to capture the New England soccer league title because of that one loss to. Amherst. The cross-country team had one win and two defeats in dual competition and finished in sixth place in the Heptagonals; while the football team had only one win, a stirring 32-0 upset of Yale, against seven defeats for a sixth place berth in the Ivy Group. The freshmen had done better, with the football team winning two, tying one and losing one, while the '57 soccer team went undefeated in six contests, and the Little Green crosscountry runners had two wins against one defeat.

The report this month will cover the teams in late October and November and also touch briefly on the prospects for Dartmouth teams this winter. But first for a look at the fall sports, starting with football.
