I recently had a letter from our classmate Hobart B. Ayers. He and Mrs. Ayers are spending the winter in Fort Pierce, Fla. I quote from the letter as follows:
"Only a few days after we arrived here I was in the back yard among the orange trees with my good old friend, Dr. Marcus Clawson. We were talking and suddenly he fell face down in the sand. Not a groan or movement. Within ten minutes we had a doctor and he said Marcus died standing up and just fell over. It was a real shock to me as we have spent six winters here together and he and his wife have spent the same number of summers with us at Westerly."
The following is quoted from a letter received very recently from Joel Harley: "Winter Park, Fla. Rendezvous of 95 men.
"Lest I forget, let me remind you that more of our old classmates are wintering down here than in any other spot in the world. 25% of the living members of Dartmouth '95 are to be found here. Think of that. There are only 4 of us here, but 4 is 25% of our old boys. We see each other frequently and always feel so happy to meet and live over again some of our College experiences.
"Congratulations on your success thus far with the Iroquois Indian claim against Vermont. Hope they win. Wish you were free to come down here again. Gertrude and Francis were here for Christmas. William and his family will be here again in a few weeks. I'll be so happy to see them all here. You know it was William who was employed last year by the Ford Foundation to secure and organize the superior programs now sponsored by the National Association of Educational Broadcasters. The group of programs still running over F.M. stations is called the Jeffersonian Block. Naturally of historical materials. I'm sure some station in Boston is broadcasting these programs. Try to get 'em.
"Today is Elbeth's birthday. For the next 18 days she will be the same age as I. Then I suddenly jump ahead of her one whole year. Yes, thereafter, our distinguished Class Secretary will not seem very .much older than I. Such is life.
"I'm surprised to' learn that so many of our Representatives and officials in Washington attend daily prayers. I don't see how aught but good can result. God bless them.
"Goodnight, good luck and good arguing."
