While the research department is out searching for some jokes and witty sayings with which to get this operation off the flat of the big broad bottom of its back, we might thumb through the miscellaneous jottings which have dribbled into our beseeching palms over the past thirty days indicating how fame, fortune, and the new Republican administration have struck out at our incomparable class.

It has been a poor month for research and field trips. This inquiring report sat sad and forlorn through a basketball game which Jake Edwards, through prior knowledge or the possession of a superior crystal ball, evidently had to pass up.

Then we had a few labor difficulties, although not of the nature that should wind up in our vital statistics department at least on the plus side, and had to miss, for the first time in many a year, the annual Boston alumni dinner. We'll find out how the boys made out, all right, but not for this deadline.

But speaking of the driblets, from HEREAND THERE, but not everywhere, we find that... Ike Newman, meagerly reported last month through the medium of an address change, writes in conjunction with wife Ruth in high praise of Ormond Beach, Fla., the weather there, and swimming on Christmas Day.... Paul Ebbitt, identifying himself as a disgruntled Stevenson supporter, and in Newport, R. 1., yet, speaks in favor of Mike Cardozo, but hell, Paul, we have trouble enough spelling the names in our own class, let's wait until one of the Smiths starts an argument. ... The address changes show that FrankTurbett has taken up residence in Maplewood, N. J.... and that indefatigable Cleveland promoter Andy Anderson has another article published in National Real Estate andBuilding Journal. This one deals with the promotional methods used in the residential sales field by salesmen of his firm and it's too bad we can't print more so you could find out how it happened you wound up with that shack which is now falling apart at the seams after six delightful months.

Recent HANOVER VISITORS registered with mine host at the Inn include Mr. andMrs. Jerry Danzig and Stan Silverman.

Our VITAL STATISTICS department still keeps its head above water with the report from Joe Swensson and wife Barbara of the birth on August so, 1952, of a 9 1b. boy, Joe Jr.

And speaking of water, just 20 YEARSAGO ... the Daily Dartmouth filled an edition with quotes from Hanover notables on the imminent return of 3.2 beer to the Hanover scene ... the ATO house burned in spite of the efforts of the Hanover Fire Dept. which responded to an alarm turned in by E. M.Bishop '34 ... another earth-shaking event was recorded as Prof. Schlossmacher turned over direction of the German Club under a new constitution designed by W. Barnet, J. B.Furst and J. C. DeHaven ... far-sighted Dartmouth editors were sponsoring a series of interviews with world figures on Russia.. .. EdDavis won the College squash championship. ... Kraszeiuski was elected basketball captain replacing junior captain Stangle... in the cage the varsity infield lined up with Morton,Spain and Snow.... Mel Earl starred as Beta captured fraternity swimming. .. and DickBanfield was elected varsity swimming captain . ... Em Day was appointed director of the '34 Carnival.... S. B. Dunn, J. H. Feth,C. B. Hess, S. H. Silverman, C. B. Strauss, and C. M. Vail were elected to The Arts. ... Senior fellows selected were Don Allen, Day, Michelet, Ruebhausen, Schuyler and Silverman.... George Engel, Ace Miller, Art Willis and Dan Schuyler were entered in the intercollegiate gym meet... .]. C. Davies defeated L. H. Marrero in College boxing finals, both weighing 135—soaking wet... picked to star in a Dartmouth movie were photogenic E. Day, W. L. Powers, W. Cummings, with 5. D. Brown on the production end.... Palaeopitus took over the '33 Aegis to save it from depression oblivion ... and an April snowstorm, measured by Prof. J. M. Poor at 21½ buried Hanover, as well as many unfortunates beating their way back from spring vacation.

From the WE ONLY KNOW WHAT WEREAD IN THE NEWSPAPERS DEPT. we find... The Board of Trustees of the Fair- field Country Day School, Fairfield, Conn., announce the appointment of William Brews-ter Ely 111 as the new headmaster, effective July l. Since graduation, Bill has taught at Emerson School, Exeter, N. H., the Harvey School, Hawthorne, N. Y., Eaglebrook School, Deerfield, Mass., and the Buckley Country Day School, Great Neck, L. I. In addition to teaching, he has also done administrative work at the two latter schools and during the war was assistant director of academics at the 2160 th Army Air Force Base unit, Lakeland, F1a.... a cryptic excerpt from the press tells us that Stan Karstedt, since graduation with Continental Oil Co. with time out for service, has been promoted to East Coast division marketing manager for that company ... the First National Bank of Lewiston, Me., began its second hundred years on the right foot by electing as executive vice-president GardnerL. Brown. Gard has been with the bank since 1939 and is, as well, a member of the Lewiston Board of Public Works, Treasurer of the United Community Chest and has been prominent in yachting activities in the area ... another banker, George Ellis, of the Home National Bank of Milford, Mass., has been named treasurer of the 1953 Cancer Crusade in that area. George is assistant cashier of Home National, clerk of the board of the Milford Savings Bank and is active as a member of the Masonic bodies through Commandery . .. newspaper photo shows a very lean looking Jack Lynch receiving from the commanding general of the 7th Infantry Division the silver oak leaf for his promotion to the rank of lieutenant colonel. Jack has been in Korea since last April... and at the bottom of the pile, of clippings that is, a short bit which points out that the new president of the San Diego General Agents and Managers Association is one J. William Knibbs.

While we're with the clippings, the MAG has been running under a reduced budget for clipping service the past year, which turns out to mean that most clips come from the big papers and the Bingville Bugle turns up hardly ever. The class sees' mutual protective society does a fair job for each other, or at any rate, fellows like Ernie Earley and Warde Wilkins help out their more moribund brothers of the ten flying thumbs. Happens you see something in your paper, tear it out and express to ye sec!

All of which kind of winds up the business for the month except for a brief announcement on behalf of the N.Y.C. fratres in urbe. Class dinners at the Dartmouth Club are scheduled for Thursday, April 16, and Wednesday, May 20. All are welcome, with a special carpet rolled out for visiting firemen. It is reported that as a special attraction, the visiting speaker at one of these affairs, depending upon governmental engagements, is a man named Jelke, who is said to have quite a following down there in the big city.

That's all, brother!
