The Dartmouth alumni of Georgia terminated spring activities with a bang-up barbecue and covered-dish affair at the beautiful country home of Billie and Bill Marsh '32. Ben Shaver '50 and lovely wife Joy officiated as organizers for the function and a notable job they did. Many cheers for the Shavers and the Marshes! The Marsh parties are always howling successes anyway ... with the wonderful big back yard and patio lined with huge trees and containing both standard horse-shoe pitching court and badminton court; fancy barbecue complete with special place to stow and cool the "liquid-bread," so endeared to the hearts of all Dartmouth men. Among the forty odd gals and guys present were our newly initiated alumni, Dr. and Mrs. Vernon Powell, parents of Rom Powell '56.
Regular luncheon meetings were held throughout the summer at a new site, the Hotel Piedmont, right in town, every second and fourth Monday at 12:30 sharp. The bimonthly meetings were decided upon to enable more men to get out together during a month.
Of more recent note, on July 28, a rollicking affair was held at the Atlanta Naval Air Station ... a combination buffet and Bingo party from 7 to 10. There was a splendid turnout of some forty people to enjoy the fine food, the camaraderie and the sport of Bingo. Also among the group were some representatives from the underclass body at Dartmouth College with their parents, and men who will go up to Dartmouth this fall for the first time with their parents. Names were many and a gala time was had by all.
