With the close of the year 1954, the Dartmouth Club of Georgia has made some good progress in their enlistment and enrollment activities for the forthcoming New Year of 1955. Major effort for the month of January will be devoted to putting the finishing touches on work already started in this vein. Secondary schools in the Atlanta area have been well combed, and prospects selected from these institutions will be duly interviewed during January. To date, one interview has been effected, and the results and reports of this will be shortly forthcoming.
A very successful luncheon meeting was held at the Hotel Piedmont, on December 27. Some twenty-seven man ranging in classes from 1912 on up to 1958 congregated for the festivities, all of which was held in honor of our undergraduates at Dartmouth College. Win Snow '14, complete with pitch-pipe, led the happy group in several of the old favorite songs of Dartmouth College, with WarrenAgry '45 swinging arms to beat in professional manner.
The speech-making was concise and newsy. Wally Rogers '56 reported on recent bandheeling activities and clarified the much disputed incident of a certain red car and two dates. Rom Powell '56 and Herb Roskind '56 together gave brief, enlightening accounts of present campus activities, along with complete snow and skiing reports and automotive congestion in Hanover.... Dick Ray '58 gave his first impressions of Hanover as a freshman, after completing one semester in regal form. Floridian vacation prevented Glower Jones '58 from being present, but he is holding his own at Dartmouth. Further notables on the guest list were Rev. Archie C. Ray, father of Dick Ray '58, and Ernie Rogers (Emory '20, but convert to Dartmouth), father of Wally Rogers '56.
Big plans are hot on the fire presently for a dinner, and social, in Atlanta, on February 1, in honor of a distinguished guest from Hanover, Prof. Arthur Jensen of the English Department. To add a bit of color to the scene, all Dartmouth alumni will bring their fair damsels to this function. Then on February 2 at noon, a luncheon is being planned to fete Professor Jensen further, and to introduce various members of the educational institutions in Atlanta, comprising educational councilors from the various schools, and principals.
To drift back again to Paragraph 1 Since our esteemed Honorary Vice President, Aha Wilson '25, could not make the luncheon doings, a Dartmouth College Calendar was prepared for him with a simple yet sincere message and the names of all men who were in attendance. Incidentally, Alva is doing very nicely once again and should be back into harness before too long.
Remember, any of you travelers ... when passing through Atlanta on a second or fourth Monday around lunch time, drop in and dine with us at the Hotel Piedmont at 12:30!! For that matter, any time you're in town, I'd like to hear from you anyway ... phone's Evergreen 7276!!
TO NOTE: Gene Taylor '49, now headquartering in Augusta, Ga., with the C & S Bank Alva Wilson '25 exhibiting much better health and rightfully gloating about the new den he had built on his lovely home.
